Kenmore HE4 dryer (gas)...Drum light is on, so the unit has power but the control panel is dead (no lights). There is a ''reset'' function that involves holding two of the buttons down for an extended period of time. What are those buttons?

You are getting moisture in the control panel buttons. After a while the panel will not function at all. The light in the dryer tub will still come on when the door is open. When you unplug your machine and it sets for awhile you are allowing the moisture to dry and the machine can reset. Some people use a hair dryer to dry out the control panel for a temporary fix. Eventually, you will have to get it replaced once it stops resetting for you.
that sounds weird to have all those lights on... first thing is to try and remove the "lock"light... push and hold the button, for 5 seconds, below the "lock" light, that should get the control back to normal operation. then if you still cant get the unit to turn on, try to unplug the dryer for a few minutes. if you still cant get it to turn back on, call sears "customer service" and complain since your machine should not have failed at this early in its life.
OK, if you are certain that the unit is receiving a power current, this
will most defiantly confirm a major chip fault in in the main control
board.
Try to wake the control by cutting the power to the unit for 5 minutes.
if the damage isn't severe, this will either, reset the program or,
render and error code. if both do not appear and the control remains
blank or dead, after the reset, replace the main control board.
Bad control panel. Replace the control panel at repairclinic.com. When your control panel clicks like that it means that a resistor or solder joint has gone bad and it is cheaper and easier to just replace the board
In my case, the problem was a dead main board. The board cost $190 and the overall repair cost $335. I will never buy another Whirlpool due to this experience.
Another post reported replacing the power cord. I am trying to determine if this is a factory defect. Check the power at the power cord connections inside the dryer. You could have lost power on one leg and the other 120 volt leg is letting the light work. Let me know what the model and serial number is. InMrFixIt
