Rowenta has a cleaning kit found where the irons are displayed.

Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner can be found in the laundry area.

Dritz Iron-Off is with sewing notions.

You can also use a damp cloth dipped in baking soda, but the above listed cleaners will work faster and better.

You can buy a sole plate cleaning kit for around $5, bedbathandbeyond has them for sure. Otherwise try some ammonia on a old towel, lay the towel flat and have the iron on the cotton setting and iron as you would over the towel where the ammonia is.... that may clean it for you if it is in fact starch!

What setting should an iron be on when using spray starch

that varies per iron, if you have instructions from the iron manufacturer that would tell you. rule of thumb is if it is too hot the starch will flake, if it is too cold the starch will not dry, try medium first if you do not see results change to medium high and progress that way.

Is there any cleaning solution to use on the iron plate to clean it?

Yes there is a paste you use on a hot/warm iron and it cleans the sole plate well. Wal Mart has some in the laundry section where they have the spray starch. It's a little 3" tube on a card.

How do I clean sticky stuff on the iron plate?

when unplugged and cool, most manufacturers have a sole plate cleaning kit. Try warm water and soap to begin with to remove starch, detergent buildup, burnt synthetic fibers etc. Don't use household cleaners or solvents.

I want an iron that really gets hot tthe one i have you have to

Have you tried ironing whilst the item is damp?

I do that with 100% cotton shirts and it works much better (hottest setting). Damp down with spray or just take it off the line before fully dry.

I can't use spray starch/ironing aid as husband is allergic.

Irons will not heat properly

This may sound weird, but try them at someone else's house, it could be possible that your wiring is not allowing them the amperage they need to heat properly.
