My Canon Pixma MP610 won't power up. (plug into the outlet, no power; try a different outlet, still no power). I've switched the power supply with another MP610 printer (I have 2) and it works in the other one. What is the problem?

You've eliminated all other options, so obviously your printer is defective.

Call canon if it is under warranty, otherwise you will have to replace it.

In the normal low voltage enviroment needed to operate printers an adapter may be needed to provide the regulated power. In my unit the adapter is not external. I have a straight power cord and the power into the unit is good. I have the same power failure as noted here. I suggest that the internal adapter / voltage regulator circuit has failed. Regretfully these types of printers are cheaper to replace than to repair. I tried getting into an all-in-one printer before and it was a real nightmare. I ended up replacing the unit after screwing with it for some time. But if you are so inclined to look into the power supply circuit you may find a issue with the transformer or thermal fuse nearby. I did note a couple of folks suggested a longer unplugged state before reapplying power. I have not be able to test this yet. I wll be replacing a customer unit and will be trying to repair the failed unit. If I can repair it, its mine. Otherwise it goes in the trash. Good luck.

Canon power supplies don't normally fail but need an 'OK' signal from the logic board to start up from standby. So either the logic board is faulty or the printhead.

Won't turn on.

Did you get it working Jason? My MP610 did the same thing to me this morning... I went through all the rigmarole of moving it, testing it with different power cords and etc... with no success. I left it unplugged completely, tried it again this afternoon and it works. Well, it turned on, copied a piece of paper, I was able to access the ink cartridges and switched it on and off again twice and it worked. Hoping it will stay that way.
I don't know if it happened because I put a CF card in to slot - will try card in another reader first and see what happens...
I would be interested to hear what happened with yours, Jason.Cheers, Vicki 23rd April 2012

My area recently had a power failure. Oddly, during the power failure I could still see a light coming from the Canon MG5220 printer. After power was restored, it was sometime later when I noticed that...

Unfortunately, it sounds like when the power was restored, the printer experienced a surge. If this was not plugged into a surge protector, then it's possible the switch was fried at the point of power restoration. It is important that with units such as printers, monitors, towers (computer), tv's, vcr/dvd players, almost any type of electrical appliance be plugged into a surge protector. However, even if this was true in this case - when a power shortage (outage) is experienced, it is necessary to unplug everything so that when the power is restored, nothing that is plugged in will be affected; as your printer was.
Now, you can have this fixed - either take it to a local computer repair shop; that might be able to fix it, or contact the manufacturer and inquire about sending the unit in for repair - regardless of warranty or not. If it is still under warranty, they may honor it. I am not positive they will for an accidental damage such as this, but it's worth calling them.

My Canon Pixma MP610 printer will not print. It

Possible causes: Empty cartridges or new cartridges with cover strip still on the contacts, plugged printhead, wipe with warm water on paper towel to see if all colors are there, also physicallyclean the black cartridge. Try to print. If not working, use the printhead clean and or prime in the printer's maintenance tab.

My PIXMA MP620 printr went OFFLINE. No power but everything is plugged in: power, connection to computer. Any help?

could be an issue with many things. First, try unplugging from the computer and plug the printer into another outlet (on a different circuit). Next, if that doesnt work, try a different power cord (if available). If neither works, than I would say a bad power module on the circuit board of the printer.

Will a USB2.0 port installed after purchase support Pixma MP610?

Somebody might have been confused or perhaps there is was a different issue as well. USB 2.0 is backward compatible. The printer should work on either, but with decreased performance on the USB 1.0. The USB 2.0 PCI card is a true USB upgrade no matter your original config. Make sure your PC otherwise meets the min requirements for the printer.
