How do I replace a drum paddle in my Hoover washing machine HSWF167

I need to replace a drum paddle in my washing machine. The current one has broken and is snagging the clothes!
How do I remove the old one? Do I need to take the drum assembly apart?

  • ssedkt Mar 18, 2008

    Thanks for your comments.

there is no cap on the top.

On the new one I've got, it looks like there is a screwhole in the underside, which implies removal of the screw from the outside of the drum?

The paddle has broken in the drum of my hoover washing machine. It is loose but will not come out, appears to be fixed by screw.Does this mean I need to remove the whole drum just to fix new paddle?.

There should be a plug on the top of the agitator. pry off this cap with a screwdriver. you will see the hex nut that fastens the agitator. remove the hex nut and lift the agitator from the transmission shaft. Installation is the reverse of removal.

How do i change a drum paddle in my hoover HNWL 7166 washer dryer

There's a screw holding each paddle in place, as well as the lugs on the paddle. You can get to the screw by removing the drain hose from the bottom on the drum, and the paddle will then be free to slide out

Drum paddles keep falling out (Hotpoint BWD129 washer/dryer)

I had this problem, and I was advised by the guy who has apparently 'replaced hundreds of these bloody things on this housing estate' to never buy this machine because 'its cheap and ****'

However, if you bend the long central tab ,the one that looks like it does bugger all, upwards into the drum (carefully though, only bend it a little) this will increase the tab tension, and your lifters should last for over six months instead of the previous couple of washes mine was doing.
As for the comment on washing trainers, I put a single towel in my machine and the lifters broke...
