First of all check that it has not got switched off somehow. After that, what I would do is trace the wires back (inside the unit) from the center speaker connector. This will take you back to the output semi-conductors for that channel. I would suspect these first, you might even see damage! You should anyway be able to look the numbers up on the net. If they are cheap I would replace them anyway. If that doesn't work I suggest you hunt down the service manual, it might have suggestions in it.

Sony STR-DG710 center speaker makes no sound. Connections are good.

Sometimes these units have the ability to switch the speaker off and on. Look up the speaker settings in the manual.
As each channel in the unit will be separately driven the power amp for the center channel could have failed, but I think it's unlikely unless you have had problems with the sound on it before, or connected it wrongly causing a fault.

My STR-DE345 has no sound from the center channel, and has not had it for quite some time. Any easy fix/diagnosis? Is there a part I can buy and replace myself?

The center channel on this model uses its own amplifier circuit that is independent from the others. It is usually a 5-9 pin IC attached to the heatsink. It is likely that this IC is defective and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, I can not know this for sure without taking measurements inside the unit. There is no simple fix for this although this is an easy repair for a service shop. Please seek professional assistance to resolve this. Expect a parts cost in the $25 range.

When trying to watch a dvd through a blu ray player, the background sound is coming in loud and clear, however when the main actors talk, their voices are not coming through.

Hello,
If you don't have a center channel you will experience this problem. The center channel is where all dialog is sent to. To fix it, you need the set the receiver to phantom center. Go into the setup menu into speaker setup and tell the receiver that you dont have a center channel installed. Once you do that, it will send dialog the the front left and right speakers.

Sony STR-DH510 Multi-channel AV receiver connected to cambridge soundworks ensemble IV w/ passive subwoofer: no sound from center channel during viewing, or during speaker level test- all other speakers...

The STR directs sound to the center as instructed by its speaker setup. You say the center does not work on calibration. Is it defined?

Prove another speaker does or does not work on the center output. Then we'll know if it's the receiver or the speaker ensemble that has the problem.

Have you checked the manual for this "
There is no sound, or only a very low-level sound is heard from the center/ surround. "?

Sony STR-DE525 Left Rear channel not working

Most likely the amp for that channel is defective. If memory serves me correctly, there is a small amp chip mounted on the heatsink that is for both the left and right rear. I would change that first. It should have about 5-7 pins.

Center and Surround Channels Inop

Even if it were a fuse, a blown fuse is merely a symptom not the solution. From the symptoms you've described the AMPs are the most likely problem. They are mounted to a large aluminum heat sink usually about center of the main board. There are several and they are a task to remove and replace because the entire board has to be removed... However, it's not too costly a repair and for a qualified shop something that can be done in a couple of hours - including testing. If you like the receiver get it fixed. Compared to most digital receivers today it's probably cheaper to fix this one than buy another. And a good repair shop will add years more life to that unit... Hope this helps. Bill

Center speaker not working

Yes Mark, You have a problem with a componet with that center channel. If your not a tech, dont have a schematic, or dont have any training in troubleshooting solid state electronics, unhook everythuing and take it into a repair senter for an estimate, as unless you know how to chech the parts you can cause more damage to the unit as it takes one slip and boom, all gone. Good Luck
