I bought a Hampton Bay ceiling fan and I have

I bought a Hampton Bay ceiling fan and I have problems with wiring. I have two switches on the wall, one for light and one for fan. I wish to use both and control the fan and light from the switches not only from the chains. I followed the instructions and the light and fan are connected to only one switch. There are four wires from the house box. Black, white, red and cooper. Please if you can tell me where all those wires go, what should I use and what not to make the connections right and use the wall switches too. Thank you.

Hi ,, the usual wiring for the fan / light is that in the ceiling the white wires connect together , the black house wire connects to the black fan wire, the red house wire connects to the other fan wire, usually blue or black with a blue stripe. If this does not resolve the issue, then check the wall switches and see that there is a power wire to each switch and that there is a red wire from the fan on one switch and the black wire from the fan on the other switch ..

Wall switches do not control fan

Some fans will not operate without the remote, however, I'm not sure if the Hampton Bay brand is one of these or not. Below is how you will bypass the remote if the fan will operate without the remote.

You can try disconnecting the receiver in the canopy of the van (the cover that fits snug to the ceiling) once you have shut off the power source remove the canopy and find the remote receiver.

Most likely it will be a rectangular box with white, black, and blue or red wires attached. Disconnect all wires from the receiver and lay it to the side.

Now reconnect the wires directly to the fan, white to white, black to black, if you have a red wire (or a second black wire) in the ceiling box connect it to the blue wire from the fan.

If you do not have a red wire (or second black wire) in the ceiling box, connect the black and blue wire from the fan to the single black wire in the ceiling box. This method will require you to pull the chain to operate the fan separately.

Wiring ceiling fans to wall switch

Hi Bigelow,

You need two switches.  It sounds like the Electrician set up the junction box for two circuits(Lights and Fans).  i say this because your supply has 4 wires, Red , Black, White and Bare. We may be able to oversome this with one Lutron Switch. Allow me to investigate, and I will be back.
