If the ignitor is glowing but no flame check the coils, flame sensor for continuity, and make sure gas is on. If the ignitor is not glowing check the thermal fuse for continuity and check to make sure the ignitor is not bad by making sure that it has 120 volts when dryer is running
If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.
if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....
If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.
If electric then the thermostat or the heating element has failed. If gas: First thing to check is the ignitor underneath the drum. (You have to open the panel to see it) It should glow shortly after the dryer starts, then the flame starts and the ignitor shuts off. If the ignitor does not glow then it or the thermostat is bad. If the ignitor is glowing but the gas does not light then the flame sensor may have to be replaced. If the gas ignites but does not stay on either the flame sensor or the coils are at fault. I find that quite often the ignitor is out of alignment or the glass window is covered with lint. a gas dryer blows air through a
burner assembly to heat the air. The burner assembly consists
essentially of a gas valve, ignitor and a flame sensor. If any
part of the burner assembly malfunctions, the result will be low
or no heat and slow drying of the clothes.
There are two common styles of ignitors,
glow ignitors and spark ignitors. The ignitor ignites the gas
either by heating up and glowing, or by sparking. If the ignitor
fails, the dryer will not heat.
The easiest way to check the ignitor
is to observe it. Remove the small access panel in front, select
a high temperature setting and start the dryer. Watch the burner
assembly, shortly after starting the dryer the ignitor should
begin to glow or spark. If you see it glow or spark, then the
ignitor is working.
Could be a bad hi limit thermostat. Could be a bad glowbar ignitor. Check the glowbar ignitor at the gas valve, is it glowing bright orange/red? If not. Replace the ignitor.
If the Ignitor comes on and lights the first stage then when the Ignitor comes on to light the second stage, there is no gas to light
The problem in such situation is a bad coil on the gas valve. No doubt about it.
Check your exhaust vent first to make sure it isn't clogged. Remove the vent at the dryer and run it for a moment to see if the air out is warm. If it's not, you've got to pull off the access panel to access the back of the unit. There should be a thermal fuse/cutout right near the burner tube. Ohm it out, replace if open. Next, you will have to try to run it without the back on to see if the ignitor is glowing hot. Also, check the gas valve for voltage when the unit is running (carefully) and see if the valve is getting voltage. If it is, replace it.
We have the same problem as posted above (dryer not heating up) only we have a Kenmore gas dryer Model 76702693. What should we do? Please help. Thanks.
