You need to make the backup from quickbooks using file,
backup. Select the drive you want the data stored on. Then if you need the backup data you need to use file, restore.
you are only backing up the data so you have to run the
file from the program, with the restored data.

SOURCE: Quickbooks Pro-restoring a back up from a previous version 2005

If is any help - we have just had the same problem.......had version 5 (very old) of QB
changed computer to Vista and would not work so had to buy Pro 208 for Vista . We really had to get in touch with Quickbooks - they send you a free upgrade kit (disc which is Pro 2006 version (not a fuull version but enogh to get the data over) then you load that on your old machine transfer your data to that then copy that again - then load into Pro 2008 - worked fine for us - have come across a hiccup with VAT - but however I guess we are going to have to give in and phone them after the Bank holiday........apart from that everything was fine.

be brave and phone 'em - tech support was helpful.

SOURCE: quickbooks pro 2005 I cant open my backup files

You are not able to open a backup file in Quickbooks, Only restore it, to open a previous backup, the easiest way is to make a copy of your current company file, then restore the backup over it. This will give you a company file with the backup data.

SOURCE: i cannot save a backup copy of my quickbooks 2007

rknrobbyy,
Try this: with the QB file open go to FILE..... UTILITIES....VERIFY DATA (this will go thru a process to identify if there is a problem) If there is a problem QB will let you know then the next step would be to rebuild data.

IF this does not work there are a few other things you can do. You can call me @ 612 718-3023 and I can walk you thru the process. ThanksTammie Nasseff CPA

Installing quickbooks pro2008 from old hard drive into new hard drive. Can not find latest expense inputs.

Sounds like you did not copy the most current file or perhaps you restored an old backup.

The connection to the company file has been lost Quickbooks must close immediately. Any unsaved data will need to be re-entered. My Company file is damaged and i have tried opening it on the another...

You will need to verify and rebuild your data file. Please follow the steps i provided, this will guide you threw the process.

Verify your data:

1. Close and reopen QuickBooks to create a new Qbwin.log file.
2. Choose Window > Close All, so that no company files or QuickBooks windows are open.
3. Choose File > Utilities > Verify Data.
* If you see QuickBooks detected no problems with your data, your data is clean. Click OK.
* If you see Your data has lost integrity, your data file is damaged. Run the Rebuild Data utility to repair the damage. You may need to run Rebuild two or more times to repair all of the damage. Rerun the Verify Data utility after each rebuild to verify that the errors have been corrected.
* If your see A data problem prevents QuickBooks from continuing, then your data file has a structural problem. Run the Rebuild Data utility to repair the damage.

Rebuild your data:

Important: If the company file is on a network drive, copy the file to a local computer before attempting to run this utility. Be prepared for this computer to be unavailable for several hours running the Rebuild utility. Never rebuild or update a company data file that is located on a remote drive (for example, by accessing it over your network).

If you can't open QuickBooks to run the Rebuild Data utility refer to QuickBooks does not open.

If you're unable to open your company file when double-clicking your QuickBooks desktop icon, see Opening QuickBooks when troubleshooting.

To rebuild the file:

1. Choose Window > Close All.
2. Choose File > Utilities > Rebuild Data.
3. Click OK to the warning message requiring a backup of the company file before starting the rebuild.

Important: Do not replace your current backup. Intuit recommends using a newly formatted external media source for this backup (such as a CD or DVD). If necessary, back up to your local hard drive.
If a message appears asking if you want to replace the backup file, click No.
To avoid overwriting the current file, enter a new name in the Filename field.

4. At the bottom of the QuickBooks Backup window, click OK.

Important: If the backup process fails, at the Rebuild prompt, click Cancel.
Do not continue the Rebuild process with your original company file if the back up process does not complete successfully. This can lead to permanent data loss.
You must make a copy of the company file and attempt the Rebuild process again using the copy of the company file.
Rename the copy of the company file with a unique name to avoid confusion with the original file.

5. The Rebuild Data utility starts as soon as the backup process completes. Click OK to the Rebuild has completed message.
6. Close the company file, and then reopen it to refresh the lists in the file:
1. Choose File > Close Company.
2. Open the company file:
* QuickBooks 2008 and 2007: Choose File > Open or Restore Company. Then select Open a company file and click Next.
* QuickBooks 2006: Choose File > Open Company.
7. Click the company file, and click Open.
8. Run the Verify Data utility.

Unable to retrieve company file after closing it

You probably opened an old file. You will need to find the current file that you were using. Use the search and search for all files ending in .QBW
Check the dates they were last used (you don't want the one with the most current date since that was the old file that was opened.)

Problem loading Quickbooks

Hi Mike,
First try reboot your machine, in case an update required a restart.
If that doesn't fix the problem, the next step would be to go to the task manager (Ctrl/Alt/Del) and go to the processes tab. Scroll down to QBW32.exe, highlight it and then click End Process (at the bottom right), then click file and exit.
Restart quickbooks from the icon by right clicking and clicking open. Do this only ONCE, hit it more than once will make Quickbooks attempt to start multiple times. Give the program time to launch.
If this doesn't work find the reboot.bat file (do a search for this if you can't find it in the quickbooks folder) - double click on it to run it. Once that is complete try again to restart Quickbooks.
If you are still having trouble you can try a a repair of quickbooks (2006 and higher). Go to the Control Panels, add remove programs, scroll down to quickbooks and click on Change remove button, choose the repair option.

If this doesn't work, you will need to do a clean install - (be sure to copy your quickbooks files to a remote disk or into another file (my documents would be a good place to put them if you have to put them on your hard drive) - If you get to that point ask about doing a clean install and I will be happy to walk you through it -

Upgrading from Quickbooks Pro 2003 to Quickbooks 2009

I would not open up the company file in 2009. Open your 2003 Quickbooks, make a backup and then restore the back up in 2009. If you do run into problems you might want to upgrade into 2006 and then to 2009. (you will need to find someone who can do this for you if you don't have a 2006 version. I can help you with that if you need it
