It depends also on what you are scanning....half tones, pictures etc. but the easiest way to control the file size of PDF's is to change the resolution setting. Also referred to as the quality setting. These are settings like Super Fine, Fine, Standard. It should be right on your control panel. It is the same setting you can change when sending a fax. If your default setting is Fine for example, changing it to standard will use a lower resolution and reduce the file size. In other words the higher resolution/quality setting you use make the file size much larger.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Hi, when I scan a document through the feeder in the top of my laser jet 3055 it creates individual pdf's for each page. I know it is possible to have one pdf for the entire document but not sure...

Yes, it is possible, all you need to do is one of two things:

One is use the feeder, that inherently knows multiple copies.

Or use the HP scanner software, (installed on each computer) and add a page.

One detail to watch is the size of the file. it gets quite large easily and certainly with multiple pages.....meaning you cannot e-mail the file sometimes...

Reset your output resolution for your document in the 100 to 150 range. Higher resolutions may be needed for some documents, but not most. This keeps the file size usable with a smaller file size.

1) whether the scanned document from this multifunction hp laserjet printer be saved in PDF format. 2) whether continous scanned pages be saved as one file/document.

The answer is yes to both questions. Follow the instructions below:-
Go to Adobe Acrobat. Click on FILE. Click on CREATE PDF. Click on FROM SCANNER. Click on SCAN. You should now be scanning your first page, after completing it you will be asked if you want to scan any more pages or close. Select to scan more pages till finished. You can also select to have Acrobat do an OCR after the scan which will allow you to search the document. To do this, click on DOCUMENT, click on RECOGNISE TEXT USING OCR and click on START

Scanned documents' size is too large (the least I got was 600kb), how can I scan a document to a PDF with the normal size of 200kb?

You need to install a PDF writer program first. There are quite a few freeware PDF writer programs on the Internet you can download one such as CutePDF.
Scan your document the click on File - Print and select the PDF writer as the printer device. Then name and save the PDF file.

I cannot scan a few pages and save them all in one file. so i have to scan every page and save it as a page. Printer HP LaserJet M2727nf

If you use the HP Solution Center and tell it to scan a document, after each page you need to place the next page on the scanner and then click on "Add Page". Also set the document type as PDF.

HP 2727 scans first page as letter size and all other pages as legal size. I want all letter size.

Solution found: Change the scan default format to Tiff, but then save the document as PDF on the workstation. We think this is a newly discovered but unintended feature of the newest hp scanner software package.

Scanning docs & size of pdf files on Mac w/HP l7680 All-in-one

The scanner produces a "picture" of the document, much as if you laid it flat on a table and took a picture of it with your digital camera. If you did this, your .jpg from the camera would be several hundred K at a minimum - comparable to the file size off the scanner. That's why the file is so big, it contains a picture and not text data - even though it's still a .jpg file.
If you reduce the scan resolution you will save space, but at the expense of legibility of the document image. To get it down to the smallest possible size, you will need to run the scanned image through OCR ( Optical Character Recognition ) into a Word document for example, and then print it out to a .pdf file. If you have a clean source document with few graphics this isn't as difficult as it may seem. Microsoft Office has an excellent OCR process known as Document Imaging. You need to carefully proof read the result but with a clean input Document Imaging is amazingly accurate in Office 2007.
In short, there is no easy solution to your problem.

Scanned files are too big

Change the file format its saving in. different formats have different compression rations. Jpg images are smaller than bmp images. simply by changing it to jpg it will be 20 times smaller. To do this when click save and the save image box appers, in the format type select jpg or gif or what ever is avilable. Play around to see what gives you the smallest size. You can also use software like Photoshop, paint, and other image editors to change the format its being saved in.
