Receiver issues- VSX-816 K

The receiver is 3 years old. Since last november, i initially faced a problem with the surround left speaker not producing any sound. Sometimes it used to work, mostly it wont work. Now i am facing the same problem with Front left, right, surround left, surround back left and sometimes center. I thought it was the wiring, so i did an experiment. I took the Surround back right wire and speaker and connected to all the ports in the receiver. The ones which were giving problems do not produce sound and it works great in its own port. If i keep switching on/off the receiver, 4/7 speakers do work. But i need to keep doing it, to find out whether they work or not. Sometimes when i increase the volume, they will go off. I am not sure what is goin on? Does changing the receiver help me?

How to make a Pioneer vsx-816k/s last longer

I really don't recommend this product to anyone, or any newer pioneer products for that matter (except the elite line). This model has the "hybrid" design, which is a very flawed design. At first the speakers will start cutting in and out, and then some of them wont work at all, and then the receiver will flash "overload" and the receiver will go into a permanent protection, all because the receiver cant handle the resistance of the speakers(doesn't matter what speaker it is). Once in protect mode, press ENTER+ ADVANCED SURROUND and it will tell you what the problem is causing it to stay in protect mode. In order to keep this from happening, use external amps. Pioneer wants around 500 dollars to fix it if its out of warranty, it will cost at least 50 to fix it yourself, in most cases it will cost 150 to fix it yourself (most cases all 3 power modules will go out, or as pioneer calls them, power packs). If you have an older vsx model (50s-80s) then it is usually worth fixing. If your having problems with pioneer vsx 3600, 3700s, 3800, or 3900s, send me an email at [email protected] and i will help you the best i can

Sound cuts out

No, this sounds like a speaker problem to me.
It sounds like the voice coils in your speaker(s) have been fried.
What happens is the part that is burnt does not funtion, but as you increase the volume/voltage the speaker "jumps" foward to a section of voice coil that is not as damaged.
Check your speakers!

Series the speakers, they may not get as much power as you would like, but your receiver will last longer.

Reciever only allows 2 channels(speakers) at a time.

I had this problem too. Finally, after using the MCACC setup and making sure all the speakers worked, I found I had to set the source to FM, TV or whatever from the remote control and set the mode to advanced surround sound using the front panal button on the upper right. Had to fool with them a lot. Good luck.

Pioneer VSX-816

With the receiver off, press ENTER + ADVANCED SURROUND keys continuously for 2 sec. and it will tell you the fault it encountered. Even if it has a short, it will still protect the speakers; however, it is still a good idea to disconnect all speakers before doing this.
