It sounds like you have you component video cables hooked up improperly. If you are using the Blue Green Red connectors for video make sure they match those on the TV. If you have the Yellow plugged into the green or vice versa you will get a black and white picture.
I have the same problem. My dvd plays in Black And White.I found out A bulb in the tv burned out.The tv will still play color, but any dvd player will play in Black and White. The bulb is $130.00 to 230.00.Hope you have a warrenty like i doo. Thanks Hope ive helped.John from Riverside RI.
what video device do you plug in to your TV screen, DVD player/VCR or game console?
If you still have the owners manual of your TV screen, look for instruction regarding Color system or video system. this menu will allow you to change color sytem from PAL to NTSC or AUTO system. most likely the reason why you have a black and white color from vidoe input is because of system color compatibilty from your input device to your screen.
Or if your using a dvd player, you can also try accessing the "setup" button and look for video setting. from the video setting there will be selection to choose from: PAL , NTSC, AUTO . always select "auto" so that the color system of your DVD player can change from PAL to NTSC deffending on your TV screen system setup.
Possible reason would be Video system compatability. In PHI most of the screen are NTSC compliant for video sytem and for Qatar im not sure if its PAL or PAL SECAM system. But no worries, the only thing you need to do is change the video setting of your DVD player. do you have the owner manual of your player? if do so, check for the part reffering to video system. access that menu and one part of that selection would be the video out system, there should be a selection to choose from PAL/NTSC and auto. just select "Auto" or "NTSC"
for the black and white screen output of your DVD and VCR.
1) for DVD player: using remote control locate "setup" button and click.a dialogue box should appear indicating " audio setup" video setup" etc..... 2) select and scroll to "video setup". in video setup there should be an option to choose "AUTO" "PAL" or "NTSC" 3) choose "auto" then check if any change in screen color.
for VCR, locate a switch or button indicating "PAL" "Auto""PAL SECAM" "NTSC". same with the dvd choose and select "auto"
note: if you still have the manual for both VCR and DVD check the instruction with regards to video color setting.
On the DVD Player, there maybe somewhere where you can change the output to the television (Scart) from RGB to Component or Composite-mode.
RGB causes some displays which cannot handle the RGB signals to black and white.
I hope this fixes your problem.
Finally, some TVs designed for PAL cannot handle NTSC discs played through them. It causes the display to also go Black and White. If this is the case there is nothing you can do except change the display/TV.
If I understand your post/description, the DVD plays OK except it is in Black & White. If so, change setting from PAL to NTSC or vice versa depending on the region you are in. US operates on NTSC, Most of Europe is PAL.
Hope that this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.
It seems that you have get the color system setting of your Tv wrong. Sony uses the Pal(it's a format for the transmission of signals) color system , so check into your TV's color system settings and change it to pal , if that doesnt work then change it to Ntsc.
