Right click on your internet connection logo (2 blue monitor screens) in the System Tray and select "Diagnose and Repair"
No Problem? - proceed.
Internet Explorer is used to sign into Yahoo Messenger. If you have another browser set as default IE will still sit as a link between your browser and Yahoo Messenger. For this reason most troubleshooting is concentrated on Internet Explorer.
Try each of these in turn, and try to sign in after each of them - if successful (or not) please feed back information to help others.
1) I would recommend installing the latest version of IE and update any support software (Flashplayer, Java, Shockwaveplayer) for IE by using an update checker
http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/
2) Start with a clean browser
Download 'ccleaner' and run it through a couple of times, using the factory settings and the 'Run Cleaner' control until 0 bytes are seen to be cleaned following a scan
Run the 'Registry' from the left hand toolbar but 'Save' any changes after opting to 'repair' errors.

3) On the sign in page click 'Messenger' > Connection Preference
Toggle between 'Connect direct to the internet' and 'Proxy setting' make sure the information is correct in the lower 2 boxes. I am currently in the Asia Pacific region and I have to toggle between these settings a few times a week to maintain my connection
4) Check these settings in IE (even if you have another browser set as default)
a) Tools > Internet options > Connections > Lan settings > check 'Automatically detect settings - uncheck other options.
b) Tools > work offline - make sure this is NOT checked and has a red X through it
5) Disable your firewall and do a trial sign in
6) Control Panel Classic View > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings-uncheck Proxy server and check automatically detect setting
7) Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > dial-up and virtual private Network setting > select your default connection > setting > check automatically detect setting
8)If you are unable to sign into this secure page (https)
https://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.src=fptx._intl=uk
copy the yahoo https address above and paste it in here:-
IE > tools > internet options > LAN settings - check automatically detect settings > Advanced - paste in 'Secure' window > OK
9) Run ccleaner again

Firstly; this error occurs when your connection preferences are not properly set. I'm not talking about your Yahoo! ID and Password here, but you may need to adjust certain features depending on what network you're on. Let's says for example, if a firewall protects your network, it may block yahoo messenger when it tries to connect to the server. You need to change your connection settings, click the Messenger menu in yahoo messenger and select Connection Preferences. Select Firewall With No Proxies. Select your Internet Connection type from the pull-down menu at the bottom and enter your Home Country if the adoptions aren’t grayed out. Click OK and login again using the new settings. If this option doesn’t work, click Connection Preferences in Yahoo! Messenger again and select No Network Detection. Try to login again using the new settings. In some instances, you may need to provide yahoo messenger with the IP address of your firewall or proxy server (you can get this information from your network administrator or from your Internet service provider). Click Messenger and select Connection Preferences again. Select Use Proxies. Enable either the HTTP Proxy or the SOCKS Proxy as needed and provide the proper address. Click OK and login again using the new settings.Secondly, if you are using IM9 there are sign in problems. This is what yahoo has to say. Try an updated version of Yahoo! Messenger 9.0(9.0.0.2128). This latest build includes a fix for the sign-in issues that have been affecting some users. If you were seeing an error code“81003005” when trying to sign in, this latest version may fix that problem. Even if you were experiencing a different kind of sign-in issue, I recommend installing this latest version.Hope it was helpful!

Hi there,
One of the best sites which provide instant messaging capabilities is http://meebo.com
The site is able to emulate Yahoo Messenger quite well. It's not a perfect solution, but is one of the best you can get without installing Yahoo Messenger.
Best Regards,
Traian
