Canon IXUS50 overexposing each photo - white balance problem?

I've had my Canon IXUS 50 for about five years. It had served me very well. But recently it's started to overexpose every single shot. I've scoured through all its menus to adjust white balance but there is not an option to. There doesn't seem to be a manual mode anymore either - I checked the instruction guide and it has vanished from the menu where it should be! This little camera used to take incredible pictures - some have even been published in magazines - without a problem. Now each photo is flat and overexposed, I can't use it. Has anyone had this problem and knows a solution? Many many thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for your speedy reply. Problem is there's no such option in any of the menus. No reset, no manual mode, nothing like that - all gone. Just very standard settings like shutter sound volume etc in menus. I think a repair is in order. Thanks though!

Hello. go into your menu and find the reset function. Reset the camera and try it. If the reset to factory settings doesn't solve your problem it needs to go to the repair shop. Joe

After taking a photo, the picture is just a white screen. a camera shop sugested the white balance was faulty.

It's not a problem with the white balance. Is the picture completely white or just overexposed? If completely white, it has to be a problem with the imager (CCD) or the board itself. I have seen some of these with faulty imagers, but the problem is that Canon (at least in some European countries) won't supply these imagers. They replace the whole camera.

Overexposed photos

Alter the ISO rating to 100
Also go to menu and make sure you have the white balance set to auto or outside rather than night or whatever it is set at.

Canon SD400: horizontal lines and daylight images are overexposed (see photo)

In both the situations the problem is with the apperture control mechanism of the camera. 1). sometimes the flexible ribbion cable carrying signal to the lense assembly get worn out, replacing the same will resolve the problem. 2) in some cases the leaf blades of the apperture gets sticky, cleaning of the same solves the problem. 3). If you happen to drop the camera then the alignment of the motor moving the blades get disturbed.

In all the cases only a good repair man can fix the problem .

Canon Powershot S330 Picture Brightness Help!!!

It sounds like the camera exposure system is out of whack and may need to be serviced. You may want to ensure that exposure compensation is set to 0. Check one of your overexposed images with the display in the 'Detailed Display' mode (two lines of information at the bottom of the LCD). If the second item on the top line is not ±0, the exposure compensation is not at its default value. To set, put the camera in M(anual) shooting mode. Press the Exposure/White Balance button until you see a scale along the bottom of the LCD from -2 to +2. Use the left or right button to set it at 0. If the value is already at 0, you will probably need service.

Very dark screen and poor white balance

The digital sensitive lens has worn out... that part needs replacement... If you know where to buy or a repair center can solve it, if they have that part....

Good luck.. happy Fixya
