Fridge/freezer not getting cold

18.3 cu ft kenmore fridge w freezer on top (model # 2539658010) is not getting cold. Freezer blows cold air from vent (sometimes cold enough to freezer water in ice cube tray)
I blew off condenser coils on back, set dials to coldest, light turns off when door is shut.
I hope my 15 yr old fridge isn't "done"

Hi!!
Make sure the temp. settings for the fridge are set about half way, check that the small fan on freezer is working. The fridge gets cold by the air that the small fan blows thru a duct on the inside back wall of the fridge. If the temp. setting for the fridge is set too low, only a small amount of air goes into the fridge, find the vent(s) and make sure air is circulating. It is not uncommon to accidentally move the temp controls when you clean the unit.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Bottom frezzer is working but fridge is not blowing cold air

Refrigerator gets cold air from freezer compartment. Either the air flow is blocked by food items or ice, or the recirculating fan is not working.

The most common failure is that the freezer coils get all iced up becuase the defroster timer, defroster thermostat, or heater has stopped working.

When it's running, you should feel cold air blowing out of the vents that are in the fridge, otherwise, the 'air tower' (air vent) is blocked with ice.

If you manually defrost the whole thing, and it runs fine for a day or so, then it's not defrosting properly. If you manually turn the defroster timer, and you don't hear the scorching/hissing/gurgling of the defroster working, then that would confirm a fault in the defroster circuits.

Based on the following thread, it's probably a bad defrost thermostat.

It sounds like the fan in your freezer is not working so it can't get the cold air to the frig or your coils are not defrosting and it is stopped u and cant blow air into te frig, One way to check if you hear the fan and know that it is working open the frig and put your hand up near the vent to see if you can fill cold air if you can't now open the freezer door if you can feel the cold air or more air r coils then you could before then your coils are stoped up the unit is not defrosting.

Frozen vents from freezer to fridge

you most likely have a defrost problem.or a clogged drain.you need to check your defrost heater defrost timer and thermostat.if ice is formed over drain then you can unclog drain with hot water.you will see when it is unclogged, water will run down drain without running over into bottom of freezer.
