I took a few close up pictures with great results and then the shutter stopped working. I turned the camara to a longer range the shutter took the picture. what am I doing wrong?

Try pressing the DISP button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place to save batteries.
That normally fixes the problem of a black screen, but if it didn't, a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).
To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.
if you can get another one for a reasonable i would certainly consider that. the cost to get these lcd's fixed sometimes is not worth it. you seem to have more than one problem with the set.
check your camera's shutter speed then try shooting again. set it to different modes, try manual, increase the shutter speed to 80. don't use flash shoot in daylight. try that first... see if its still blurred. hit me back on the results.
I gave the lense part of the camara a moderate slap, and the camara has worked fine since. looks like a lot of people have the same problem. Most of the people call it black screen problem. the shutter gets stuck. Tap it a few times on the side of the lense part of the camara moving it from bright to dark objects back and forth.

Hi, I have the same problem with my sony DSC-S700. I think someone drop it, and it took pictures with horizontal line specially outdoor. I noticed that the lens shutter does'nt open and close. All I did was to tap on the lens several times and everythings back to normal. I so happy my camera is working again. Thanks to your idea. Brenton
One or more causes may result in unclear (blurry) pictures. Some common causes and suggested solutions are listed below.
The lens is dirty. Clean the lens according to the guidelines for your camera model.
The subject was too close to the camera. Make sure that you are far enough away from your subject. Each camera model has recommended distances for normal, telephoto (zoom), wide-angle, and close-up pictures.
The subject was farther than the effective range of the flash. Each camera model has an effective flash range.
The camera did not autofocus or autoexpose the picture correctly. For best Autofocus/Autoexposure function, press the shutter button halfway down and hold. When the AF/AE Indicator (Ready Light on some cameras) turns green, press the shutter button the rest of the way down to take the picture. If the yellow light blinks, release the shutter button. (On some models, the light will also blink yellow if the shutter speed is too slow.)
You did not use the LCD screen Preview feature to take a picture in Close-Up mode. When the camera is in Close-Up mode, always use the Preview feature, both to confirm focus and to aim the camera properly. If you do not do this, the viewfinder will not show you an accurate view of the picture because of parallax error.
The subject or camera moved while you took the picture. Place the camera on a flat, stable surface, and hold the camera very steady. Or use a copy stand or tripod – especially advisable at telephoto or high-zoom settings, or in low light.
