No. SD cards will work in SDHC devices but not the other way around. It's a hardware incompatibility and cannot be changed in firmware. The only solution is to get an SDHC-capable card reader.

It is possible that the card may be corrupt or damaged, you could try to get a Canon SD card and try that , I'm guessing that the camera came with a Canon SD card when it was new?. The Micro Center SD cards come with a 3 year limited warranty so try contacting them, personally I use Kingston SD cards.
That's not unusual. Try using a separate card reader...works every time.

K your so rite I did not notice or know theere was a difference the new cards (SDHC-dont work) old card SD does work. Can I change the driver of the SD reader or better to exchande cards for smaller SD.

Is it an SD card or an SDHC card? If it's an SDHC card, can the reader on your computer handle SDHC cards? (If the card is bigger than 2GB, it's an SDHC card, not an SD card.)
