Acer Aspire 5570 getting SMART failure error on HDD

check to see if the cdrom is firmly in place
if yu have other boot cd test
check to see if its reading the cd normally you hear it spinning and low grinding noise
all else fail pick one up here

Hi. Try to boot up the computer from your CD ROM then install windows. Make sure that the rescue disk is in the CD drive. Here's the procedure. Keep on tapping F12 key the moment you press the power button. You should be getting a boot menu after doing this. Select ODD/DVD rom drive inorder for the computer to boot up from your CD rom then follow the on screen instructions in installing windows.

As per experience, SMART Utility will check your HDD for any errors that may occur.

I backed up everything and replaced a new HDD and got rid of the error.

Opened up the problematic HDD and noticed a very light scratch on its "platters".

As for me. Never ignore this warning before something might happen to your HDD and lost important data.

what does popping mean,
9 year old laptop.
backup to where> HDD?
is HDD full?
did you run full HDD tests yet, (smart test)?

there are two posibility,
your hdd don't have operating system
or your hdd isnot detected.
check in bios, check if your hdd is there.

Is the error message coming before bios starts to load XP from harddisk, or after?

If it is coming after XP starts then it may be driver issue.

If it is coming before XP, then it may be a question of incorrect bios for the hardware in your laptop.

you got that error message because your harddrive isnot detected so it try to boot from network and you don't have OS in the network.

Most of the time is your hdd is dead. In some cases the motherboard is dead.

You can replace your hdd.
for OS (vista vs XP), if you have enough rams and high cpu, you should install vista, but for me, I prefer XP.
for the price, you should call microsoft seller.

OS means operating System and HDD stands for Hard Disk Drive.
When u turn ur system on is it already black or it shows the bootscreen like ACER logo etc. and then goes black.
If thats the case then ur OS has crashed. Try installing new one.
And if its black right from the start then i think it is a hardware failure.
