Try using the "auto-adjust" feature. Many times if this hasn't been done, the screen will seem very blury. Unless it is extremely bad, which in that case it could be many other things. But try that first.

Fading colour

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Take it to a repair shop.

My Samsung SyncMaster T220 does not display correctly. I can just about see a very faint image behind the black screen when I press the menu button. When I perform the self test (unhooking the VGA cable...

m_r_murphy, The T220 may have developed an internal ac to dc "switch-mode-power-supply / CCFL inverter supply" power problem an you may need to need to have it repaired, Look into warranty or outside technician to refurbish the unit's SMPS/inverter!!! From your description, I believe that the SMPS is in "partial shutdown" mode!!! (no 12 to 14v dc) to power-up the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" that enable you to see the text and graphics that you already know are being displayed on your lcd panel!!! (+5vdc or 3.3vdc rail still alive!!!) You have "black screen" symptom!!! NOT BLANK n BLACK screen!!! There are lots of DIY videos on YOUTUBE to help you decide if you can attempt a cheap (<$20usd) repair to your unit. Do some reading in my old fixya profile (louie12fix) and visit some of the links you find there. Because your T220 isn't any different than any other brand of CCFL back-lit lcd display in it's basic design and operation you should be able to fix it. Get back to me lmistyrel on aim or do additional comment to this original post here on fixya with info on your next step to repair this unit.
All the other ccfl back-lit lcd monitor tech's on fixya already know what's wrong inside your unit!! Do your research first!! Bye for now, 12fixlouie

Samsung T220 Screen Flicker

When the LCD monitor display flickers and or has a black screen then the fault is usually a faulty inverter or the CCFL lamp. When you look at the screen at a sharp angle and you see a dim image then it is a backlight problem and it is caused by a faulty inverter or a CCFL lamp.

Fade letters

Hi,

Perhaps what is needed is to re-adjust the focus/screen controls. They are located at the FBT. A friendly reminder, standard precautions applying when working with live HV.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Some letters on monitor are fading out

Some letters on monitor are fading out if there is no problem with card then it is due to monitor high voltage section failure. 1 there should be proper output from power supply. 2 focus control on flyback to be set. 3 crt base loose 4 or focus wire going to crt base not properly connected due to some foreign material deposited on it. 5 at last if monitor is old there is a possibility of crt getting weak.
