Yes; bar oil is SAE 30 with a some additives to make it adhere to your bar and chain. An excerpt from a Remington manual follows:

From your OM, page 9 (edited).
FILLING OIL TANK
1. Remove oil cap.
2. Fill oil tank with SAE 30 motor oil if the temperature is between 30 & 75°F

Colder use SAE 10 oil.
Warmer use SAE 40 oil.
3. Replace oil cap at once. Tighten oil cap firmly for a good seal. This will avoid oil seepage from tank.
4. Wipe off excess oil.

It is normal for oil to seep when saw is not in use.
Empty oil tank after each use to prevent seepage.
This is from a Remington OM

Where to put in gear lube

With hood raised look to the far right in the corner. You will see the resevoir to the left of the resevoir for gear oil. The resevoir for gear oil is smaller & sits right in the right corner. The cap has a raised button on it & there's a round floating disk inside.

My car heats up changed thermostat no oil in water no water in oil. blows back into resevoir then heats up

Did you check the lid of the cooling system? Has it got the original lid on? If you put some 2 bars of pressure onto the cooling system while cold, would you be able to find a leakage? Did you check the waterpump? The could be most probably some water leakage ore traces of that unter the waterpump inbetween inner and outer bearing.

I have a poulan ES300 electric chainsaw and have been having a problem with the saw blade getting lubricated. I put the lubricant in the resevoir but oil is not flowing on the blade. How do I repair this...

Take the bar off. Then run the saw to see if oil is coming out.If it is make sure the oil hole in the bar is not plugged up.This happens after some use.To clean the bar you can use a small flat blade screw drive.Just scrape down the grove. You will see a small hole at the end where it bolts on.If you have an air hose just blow it out.It has to be open for the oil to get to the bar.

My husqvarna automatic chain oiler doesn,t work...235 husqvarna any fixes?.

You may have gotten some saw dust particles inside the oil resevoir that got sucked into the delivery tube, thus clogging up the oiler...you can drain the oil out of resevoir and run some seafoam thru the oil resevoir to see if you can get it unclogged

What type of oil does my black and decker chainsaw need

You can use SAE 30 weight motor oil or bar and chain oil. Press the bulb on the resevoir cap 2x before each cut making sure the saw is pointed down and to the right to let the gravity feed oiling system work properly.

Excessive oil from the chain oiler. oil resevoir is empty and fuel is still 3/4 full. Saw is two weeks old. Oil sprays off the bar.

What kind of oil did you put in there?? The bar and chain oil is so thick, i can't see it slinging anywhere, you must have used 2 stroke in there. It's OK, That is all I use in my Husky, but it doesn't sling off. I don't know if you have a part missing or what, but there is a little damper right under the chain guard. Check it out, hope this helps.

My Makita dcs 4610 chansaw is not putting oil on the chain. The oil resevoir is full but no oil. I have cleaned it in general but want to know where the oil comes out in case it is blocked.

Remove the bar and chain, then clean the side of the engine case where the bar fits to. Start the engine--oil should ooze out of a small port in the engine case. If ok, clean the bar and cover, then clean the two small oil channels in the drive end of the bar which allow oil to flow out into the chain groove on each side (only one is active depending on which side of the bar is 'down'). If no oil came out of the engine port, then you need to investigate the oil pump (behind the clutch), oil lines, and oil filter in the tank. The oil pump, in particular, has plastic gears that can become damaged. When oil appears at the port, assemble the bar and chain. Adjust the chain (cover fastemers finger tight) so that the chain just pulls up to the lower bar edge, but not so tight that the chain can't be pulled by hand. Make sure the teeth cut toward you on the bottom run and are properly sharpened. Tighten the cover fasteners firmly and recheck tension. If ok, run the saw at speed for several moments with the tip near some cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil. Hope this helps!

Not getting oil to my bar

From your description, the oil pump appears to be toast. Look at the back of the clutch housing for a spiral thread which drives the pump. There is normally only one active oil port in the side of the engine case and oil should just ooze out of the port when the engine runs (you may have to re-install the clutch to get this to happen). Check the two oil channels in the drive end of the bar which feed oil out to the chain groove on both sides. Don't flush the tank with fuel unless it is full of dirt or other contaminants. When you get everything back together, run the saw tip at speed near some cardboard, it should throw off a thin line of oil after several moments. Hope this helps!

No bar oil is coming out. Emptied oil resevoir and blew air from compressor back through from oil outlet and still nothing. What could be the problem?

Normally, there are valves in the oil circuit that prevent oil/air movement in the reverse direction. There is usually an oil filter on the line inside the tank that occasionally will plug up. Remove same and check. An oil line can go bad as well as the oil pump. Some brands of saw use a plastic gear for the pump and the gear can strip it's teeth--check for same. When checking for oil flow, remove the bar and chain--look for oil to ooze out of a port on the engine case where the bar fits to. If ok, then clean the oil passages in the bar end, especially the two small passages that go to the chain groove on both sides of the bar. Finally, with everything together, run the saw at speed with the bar tip near a piece of cardboard for a few moments--it should throw off a thin line of oil on the cardboard. Hope this helps!

Remington chain saw oil problem

hi,

yes sounds as if you have gummed up the port for the oiler. you will need to clean the oil resevoir out using some kerosene or mineral spirits this will clean the port out and will not be harsh on the plastic. bar and chain oil is thick but has a sticky quality or viscosity that allows it to lubricate gas engines mor effectively and uses the heat from the engine to help thin it to a consistency to be of use to the bar and chain. on an electric chain saw there is not enough heat to allow this. a good oil resevoir cleaning and replace you oil with a light weight oil recommended this should do the trick. good luck hope this helped.
