I have a Panasonic DMR-EH60 DVD Recorder. I am trying to finalize a disk to make it playable on other machines. I have tried to follow the handbook instructions and an online tutorial but the menu I see after going Functions:To Others:Disc Management does not give the options (e.g. Finalize) that the instructions say it should. What am I doing wrong? Could this have been disabled?? What do I need to do?
It sounds like you haven't selected DVD first. When dubbing to DVD, you need to do this in HDD mode. When finalizing, you need to be in DVD mode for the finalizing options to come up.
I also have an EH60 which had this problem. When finalizing it made a grating sound when running the disc up to speed. It was ok for about three months and then same problem.
What we found was that the discs drive clamp would slowly build up with a fine dust from the disc plastic and when we cleaned the drive clamping faces it was fine.
This cleaning would require a strip down of the dvd unit to gain access.
What I have since tried is to use and old dvd and stick some double sided sellotape on the clamping area around the centre hole then load into the unit as normal and the eject the disc.
This has appears to work fine by picking up the fine powder from the drive plate.
