Red light very often when bag is not full
This can happen when something is stuck in a pipe and blocking it
The bag may be clogged even if it's not full. Fine powder can clog the pores of the bag. Bags are inexpensive in the whole scheme of things. Replacing them frequently will make your vacuum work better and last longer.
The red light will also come on when there is a blockage in the pipes leading to the bag compartment. To test that the light is working correctly, you can unplug the flexible hose from the top of the bag compartment then switch the machine on. The red light should be off, but will come on if you block the hole with your hand. If that test shows the light is working, you need to search for a blockage - which is most likely to be in the flexible hose, but can be in the rigid plastic tube or in the base of the machine (turn it over and look in the little trap-door). Clearing a blockage from the hose can be difficult - you are more likely to be successful if you can devise a way to pull it out rather than trying to push it (as with a broom handle, for example), because pushing may just compact it. Good luck!
OK - here's the detail. The red light comes on when a sensor detects that the motor is running faster than normal. The cause of that will be reduced air flow (the motor runs faster when it has less air to move), caused either by a full bag, a clogged filter or some other blockage elsewhere in the system.
In your case, if it's not a full bag causing the problem, then you need to seek out the other cause. How long is it since you changed the long cylindrical filter in the bag compartment (should be once for every 20 bag changes)? Try this: remove the filter and leave the bag compartment open, then switch the machine on - if the red light still comes on there is a fault with the sensor mechanism and you will need a professional repair. If the red light does not come on, there is definitely a blockage somewhere that must be found and removed.
If you need to ask more on this, it might be helpful if you could confirm that the automatic height control is working properly.
Brilliant! I could not find a blockage for ages and didn't think about that big filter - took it out and hey presto - blocked with dog hair! Working fine again

Hi
I have a problem with the red light because there seems to be no good reason for it to come on.
I would appreciate a suggestion to address this.
