WindowsXP professional, start up

Dear sirs;

I have recently up-graded my computer to Asus M/B, AMD dual-core, and SATA H/D.( & I already have 2 internal IDE H/Ds)
I have Japanese WindowsXP disk which I installed, then I had to push F5 to choose instalment type to normal instalment.
Then I installed English version of WindowsXP from Japanese WindowsXP's explore; which is the only way to install English version I found as English version can not boost the set-up of WindowsXP.
English version disk can not be recognised by computer for starting set-up;it always indicates 'insert proper disk and press any key' just after POST.
I failed to install English version several times and succeeded.
But now, Every time I start my computer, computer asks me to choose Operation system just after POST. There are three 'Windows XP Professional's to choose from. I can choose two of them and not one; the one leads to start-up failer saying '¥system32¥hal.dll is missing'.
I suspect I have several WindowsXP system on my computer now.
I want to get rid of the other two from my computer.
I cleaned up disks(including other H/Ds) with killdisk software, then re-installed Windows XP in the same way as mentioned above.
Yet, I still have those WindowsXPs.
It didn't slow down my computer though.
Please help me.
Yours

    thanks, Chintu-.

But after modifying c:\boot.ini, I can not find how to save it.

I have a proper windows disk, but coming from my friend. It might be dodgy,so I will get a boot-disk from somewhere.

Hi,

This needs some understanding of OS only. Don't worry.

Now, coming to ur first problem... u can change the bootup xp options by modifying the c:\boot.ini (be careful too...and u r right, it will not slow down ur pc)

reg. the bootup disk problem, ... u may need to create a bootable CD for installation... u may get the 'bootstrap' CD image from internet (but, r u having a licensed version???)

:)

Have a nice day

I hope, my suggestion was helpful

What mother board should is best for use on this video editing, engineering, and games with better graphics and can also work for more than 18 hours?

The best computer mainboard, would be either an AMD AM3 mainboard made by ASUS. For example ASUS Crosshair IV Formula or ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3. Or an Intel computer mainboard. ASUS Socket 1156/1155/1366.

Your Pentium Dual-Core E2180 2.0Ghz on the LGA775 socket is not good for Games or video.

The best thing to do is to purchase a new computer system.

Use either AMD Phenom 2 or Intel I5 or I7.
Use a good mainboard as above.
Use a good Graphics card, Nvidia 400 series.
Keep all the components running cool with a case that you like and has place for lots of 120mm or 140mm fans.
Use DDR3 RAM 1333MHz or higher.
Use Cooler Master or Corsair Power Supply.

If however you are wanting a good mainboard to be used with your Pentium Dual-Core E2180 2.0Ghz on the LGA775 socket then click here.

ASUS is very good, all these mainboard on the LGA775 socket are good, choose one that looks good to you and one that you can afford.

Thanking you kindly

I got an AMD turion x2 64 processor in my new notebook n after reading reviews comparison to core 2 duo i m really tensed!

You made a good choice. In the CPU arena right now, the difference between the two CPUs is a toss up. The slight advantages of one vs. the other in benchmark tests is nominal and actually artificial..

What happens with an AMD CPU is with the associated GPU onboard. And with a 64bit processor, the number of apps and games that take advantage of 64bit CPUs has always been limited but they are growing. This will only become more and more numerous.

The main architectural difference in the two was in how the two cpus communicated and the AMD was first to use a bus between the two cores and the Intel had to go to the onboard memory controller and back. That was in the first inception. Still, AMD has been far in advance of Intel and Intel has played catch up in tricks inside the cores and how the north and southbridge took advantage of the cores' architecture.

Needless to say, I'm an AMD power user and my gaming rig has an AMD dual core on an Asus/Nvidia board and an Nvidia PCIe 9800 GPU.

In the long run, all modern notebooks require you to own a pad cooler to use these in your lap or not, they all produce heat. So, just get a good one designed for your laptop so it snaps into place and will keep your rig nice and cool.

At a LAN Party you won't suffer from having a dual core AMD cpu, you'll hold your own and it will be an even playing field and the wins will go to the person with the fastest fingers... as it should be.
