The reason your character is moving by itself is your joystick malfunctioning. This is due to long playtime and hard pressing of joystick. It could also be that it has dust in it that's why it's malfunctioning. If it is still under warranty why don't you bring it to the nearest shop and let them fix it for you. You can also clean your joystick first from any dust and check if it solved your problem. Try watching this for your guide in cleaning the joystick of your psp. Be very careful in doing this or it might make your problem worse. If you want you can replace your joystick, I have checked it ebay and the price range from $2 - $3..

In Windows 7, Go to "Game Controllers" in your control panel, select
your joystick from the list, click "Advanced," and under "Preferred
Device" select your joystick from the dropdown menu.
It worked for me with my MS Sidewinder FF2 and Windows 7. BTW, SloMo is
highly recommended to play Heavy Gear 1, as otherwise your gear will run
in place in the game because it's running too fast.
the joystick is worn and isnt returning to the center as it originally would, it happens to all controllers over time, the only way to fix it is to replace the joystick but it would be easier to just buy a new controller
If you've had the controller a long time weird things can start happenning. Usually the pads on the joysticks go first.
Try a different joystick(borrow a friends) and if it still happens you'll know its not the controller.Could be a glitch in the software of the game.
Eliminate each area. If a friend has the same game use their disc to try your controller with.
Take your controller to the video game store ask them to try it out on their game display models.If it's "busticated" you can buy a new one right away LOL.
