Most of the "EZ clutch kits" that I've seen simply replace the release mechanism that is in the clutch release cover on the transmission.
You must drain the transmisson lube and remove whatever you need to remove to gain acess to the clutch release mechansm cover on the right hand side of the transmission. Remove the transmission filler plug and dip stick. Remove all the bolts that hold the cover on the transmission. Remove the cover.
Now, disconnect the clutch cable and screw it out of the cover. Remove the snap ring from the inner ramp and remove it. Make sure you keep up with the three large ball bearings. If you're replacement part comes with the outer ramp, remove the large snap ring and replace that ramp as well. Notice the position of the large snap ring and the tang of the outer ramp before you take it out. Put it back in the same position. Apply a thick grease to the ball bearings and "stick" them into their slots on the outer ramp. Install your new inner ramp and snap ring.
The rest of the reassembly is simply the reverse of the disassembly. Refill the transmission with 20-24 ounces of H-D Syn3 20W50 engine oil or equilivant. Torque the cover bolts to 10-13 foot pounds. Adjust the cable at the adjuster near the left downtube of the frame so that you have about an eighth of an inch of freeplay at the lever.
This is part of 5000 mile service. To adjust follow the cable down till you find a boot (rubber) and slide it up,loosen the jam nut 9/16 and turn adjuster towards the jam nut 1/2.Then remove the derby cover (replace o-ring) loosen jam nut 11/16 and turn in the allen screw until it lightly seats and back off 1/2 to a full turn tighten down jam nut 6-10 ft.lbs. put cover on,go to cable mid-control and adjust till you have a 1/16 to1/8 freeplay at clutch lever (use a nickel) squeeze handle in at least three times to make sure ball and ramp seat Good Luck
drain primary fluid, remove clutch inspection cover make sure not to lose spring hex when removing, with small screw driver turn adjuster so the hex nut screws out (left handed threads) remove ball and ramp off cable careful not to drop anything into primary.okay now go up cable to mid-range adjuster and back off (together) then go up to clutch lever and remove there a snap ring that you should replace and be mindful of cable rounting then go back down to primary cover and remove, when putting new one in be sure not to over tighten and don't forget o-ring, after all reinstalled to adjust clutch screw adjuster in to it lightly seats and back off 1/4 to 1/2 turn and adjust mid range until you have a 1/16 to 1/8 freeplay at lever pull and release three times to make sure the ramp and ball have seated good luck
Don't know if it is the same problem I had, but when mine was doing that my pressure plate on my clutch basket was failing. It is a pretty simple job but you need a clutch basket compression tool to do it. My local dealer put in for free when I brought in the basket and bought the pressure plate.
On the stainless steel basket notice a notch cut out on the rim above the spout and an indentation on the back of the basket near the rim. The plastic ring must snap on to the steel basket before placing the assembly on the motor housing. If it does not snap on, it is not fully seated. After the ring is seated and on the motor base, push the basket on and spin it. Confirm that the basket clears the ring. Place the top cover with feed tube over the unit and lock the two clips down. This procedure should solve your problem.
It is very difficult. My parents and I spent about 3 hours on it, and
my husband came home and did it in about 5 minutes. You have to
actually put the hard-wood board and frame part in the liner. You have
to pull it really tight, and the bit of printed material with the
Warning sign should fold from the outside in. This puts the ruffle part
close to the top--but on the outside. The buttons will snap all around,
and the strappy things on the bottom hook around that bottom basket
part and snap. You will be able to see the wood before you put the
little mattress back in. I really hope that helps--we were so
frustrated.
