If it happens for all your discs then clean the PS2 with a laser lens cleaning kit like this one:

If it only happens for one disc then bring the disc to a game store like Gamestop or Rock30 Games and have them professionally clean the disk for a couple bucks.

My playstation2 was working fine before but now it will not read any games or dvds. How do I fix this problem?

You can try to use a cleaning disk to clean the drive but more than likely you will need to purchase a new dvd drive for it.

My ps2 isn't reading the disks, all it ever gives me is a disk read error or it goes to a screen that says "please insert Playstation or playstation2 compact disk." No matter what i try, i can't get it to...

Laser needs to be replaced or the dvd drive swapped since you already cleaned the laser and the motor. You can do a search on google to see if you can pick up a cheap one or go on Ebay to look as well. You already took the steps I would have done to troubleshoot the problem.

Hmmmmm. This sounds like there is something wrong with the disk. I would try the game on another consoul. This is a method used by sony. If it doesn't work on your friends consoul than the best that you could do is try cleaning the disk with a non-alchoholic cleaner (easy to find at computer/record stores) and a cloth that is more soft like a glasses cleaning cloth. DO NOT USE PAPER TOWEL!!!!!!!! this will scratch the game even more!!!!!!!! If the game works on another consoul than call Sony Canada at: 1-800-222-7669

I have a playstation2. The disk doesn't show up anymore so I can't play any games. It read err.

Try cleaning the system.
Get a can of dust remover and thoroughly blow out the system.

MAKE SURE NOT TO SHAKE THE CAN OR TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN THIS WILL CAUSE FREEZING LIQUID TO BLOW OVER THE SYSTEM POSSIBLY CAUSING DAMAGE.

You will also need a laser lens cleaning kit, both of these items can be purchase @ Wal Mart, Kmart or Target for about $25.00

Is it all of your disks or just that one? If it is just one disk then you should try and clean the disk. If it is all of the disks then you may have a dirty laser eye and need to get a dvd cleaner, I personally recommend the phillips brand dvd cleaning kit. It should be a disk cleaner and a cd/dvd cleaning system for the laser eye. It usually runs under 15 dollars. If this doesnt work then your system is shot and you should replace it.

try cleaning the lens with a DVD laser cleaner disc, I bouth one at Walgreens for about $12.00 it's Scotch brand, has a few brushes that gently clean the laser, dont touch them tough cause u can get oils from ur fingers on it, if not use a Q-tip with rubbing alcohol, not too wet! and gently in a curcular motion clean the lens! GENTLY! ... if all that don't work, and the game's not scratched, the laser could be bad, I heard that the laser sucks on the PS2!

you shouldnt need ps2 disks for emulation you just need to download ps2 roms which are basically ps2 games that work with emulators.sometimes you will need to download roms compatable with your emulator in some cases.
