The tractor will run good and then all of a sudden it will start popping and cracking and won't hardly run at all then it will pick up speed again and run good and then go right back to popping and backfiring. The tractor is a ferguson TO20

Check catalytic conv.

I had a similar problem with my cub Cadet. It turned out that the Ignition Module on the engine was cracked. Motor started OK - but died as soon as a load (such as engaging the mower) was put on it.

These are not terribly hard to check, and/or change, yourself. Easy to get to once the motor shroud is removed.

My 25 HP Kohler engine has 2 modules. EXPENSIVE from the dealer - found MUCH better prices online.

check out the jets or the needel valve you mite have some stuff on it

your getting air into the system,, change that primer bulb and you should be fine

I would start checking the clutch cable and see if it actually broke or if there is another issue with it like you have stretch the clutch cable.

it is a very bad/old fuel injectors replace them save the money you put in excessive fuel consumption

Doesn't sound good. It sounds like something broke inside your engine.

Possible water in fuel tank. If the engine sputters an pops most probably water.
