C4280 photosmart printer - printer screen says "Printer cartridge missing or not detected" - I replaced the old HP cartridge that was in when the message appeared with a new HP printer cartridge in but it still does not detect it. This message appeared occasionally over the last 30-45 days, removing the old printer cartridge and replacing it would solve the problem - last week the message stayed on the screen even when the new HP cartridge was installed. Tried all the procedures on the HP Support web site with no change. Printer is 18 months old with occasional use - 10 pages/week avg.

Uninstall the program from your computer. Plug in your printer first replace with new cartridge making sure to remover the film on the cartridge Then plug in patch cord to computer, program should reinstall if need be you may have to have your disk that comes with the printer. Hope this works, Printers are going for very cheap I would suggest buying a new one if this does not work.

Print cartridges missing or not detected message

I tried to solve this problem but still persist

Printer will not recognize new blk ink cartridge.

I think either the printer's scanner(or film as some call it) and/or the carriage is faulty. The signal cable that connects the carriage to the logic board could also be a suspect. Try replacing these items one after another and the culprit will be isolated. Good luck.

Wont detect

1. Make sure that you removed the tape covering the metal contacts on the print cartridges.

2. Clean those contacts with a cotton swab and distilled, filtered or bottled water. Tap water may damage. Do not touch with curious fingers. Allow to dry.

3. Reinsert, Reset printer.

HP PHOTOSMART C4280 PRINTER WONT READ INK CARTRIDGE.

The cartridge is not seated properly and/or the contacts are dirty. Use a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and gently clean both the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the cartridge socket. Allow several minutes to dry and then try again.
