Hi,
To my understanding, the AC adapter of the Hitachi DZ-MV550 DVD Camcorder must be plug in for a successful "finalizing", pls post back if it was.
Pls post back as requested and will work from thereon.
Good luck and kind regards.

Hi again,
With the indulgence of johnychel...
Re-reading your post shows that this is the first time that this has happened. For the moment, I will assume that there is nothing wrong with the unit, you have followed the steps as outline in the manual and you are using the same type/specifications of discs (if not the same brand and model) as you have used before.
Possibilities are:
1. for some unknown reason, the AC adapter had a momentary glitch. This could be attributed to an unnoticed/too-fast power interruption. This could also be caused by jarring of the adapter from the wall outlet or power strip;
2. the initially blank disc is somehow defective;
3. it is probable that the movie length (time) exceeds the disc capacity;
4. there was a bit of dirt/smudge on the failed disc. Alternately, it could be on the laser lens also;
5. in some instances, it could be brought about by ambient temperature changes which could possibly cause condensation in the unit.
Things you can try are:
a. finalize again using another disc;
b. let it sit for a while before finalizing;
c. verify that the adapter would not loosen itself nor in a position that it could be jarred easily;
d. verify that the disc has the capacity to hold the movie to be burned in terms of length of time;
e. use a mini disc cleaner if at all available/possible.
Hope this be of further help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.

Im guessing your talking about a new disc here , before you can do anything with the disc ,you will either have to format it or erase it, once you have donr that you can then use the disc and edit its contents. im assuming you are using the correct type of disc for your machine, eg dvd+rw or dvd-rw check the manual to make sure your machine can record onto a dvd+rw disc. hope this is of some help to you.
