  • Unjam the motor
  • Unjam the pump
  • Check the drain valve
  • Check the drive belt
  • Test the timer motor
  • If you have a brand new dishwasher or garbage disposer, check the knock out plug on the garbage disposer.

I have a Whirlpool Quiet Partner 3 dishwasher making a buzzing noise on start up. It sounds as if it is coming from the door. The unit works and I have cleaned out the filter and around the pump.

When the dishwasher starts to make funny noises or working loudly, it is usually because there are debris caught in the draining pump, although a problem with the motor is also possible.

Drain Pump: The drain pump might needs to be checked for debris. If its clean and noisy it needs to be replaced.

Circulation Pump: Bearings inside the circulation pump will wear out over time and can cause a loud groaning sound while the dishwasher operates.

Wash Impeller: The wash impeller has small plastic blades that help with water flow to the control arms. If one of the blades breaks there could be a noise. It may also be improperly aligned. Inspect for any signs of damage.

Maytag dishwasher won't drain

Drainage problem of some sort is usually the cause. Could be blockage before your drain pump, in your drain pump, or in your drain hose. One possibility is that you just installed a garbage disposal and forgot to remove the "knock-out" plug for the dishwasher drain line. Another cause can be that you have not looped your dishwasher drainline under your sink and water from your sink is flowing back into you dishwasher. You must attach your dishwasher drain line under your sink so it is higher then your sink drain lines, creating a trap for your dishwasher. Your drain sump could be plugged, not letting the water get to your drain pump easily. This is caused by not getting loose or hard debris off your dishes before putting them in the unit. Also make sure your drain pump is getting the right voltage when it is supposed to.God bless youfa618d8b-d0fd-412a-b0d5-a88d44bf89d3.giffb1320dc-7bec-4cb0-98ed-c24cf54e5e3b.jpg

Belt, Water Pump Although few dishwashers have a water pump belt, if the dishwasher won't drain there might be a worn or broken water pump belt. After removing the lower kick panel the motor can be seen in the front, the water pump belt is on the bottom of the motor.

Drain Pump If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain pump might be defective. Test the pump motor with an Ohm meter. Drain pumps are not repairable, if it's defective it will need to be replaced.

Drain Impeller The drain impeller is attached to the pump and pushes the water out of the dishwasher, through the drain tube and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain impeller might be broken or worn out. Replace both the impeller and seal at the same time.

Drain Solenoid Kit If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain solenoid kit might need to be replaced. The drain solenoid is an actuator that opens a flap to allow the water to drain.
Drain Valve The drain valve can get clogged with debris and should be cleaned out if the dishwasher won't drain. If it seems clear of debris but won't actuate, it will need to be replaced. The drain valve is not repairable Pump and Motor Assembly If the dishwasher won't drain, the pump and motor assembly might be defective. If the motor runs during the drain cycle, check for a blockage in the drain line. If the motor won't run during the drain cycle or if it just hums when it should be running, the pump and motor assembly might need to be replaced.

Clogged or Improperly Installed Garbage Disposer If the dishwasher won't drain and the garbage disposer was installed recently, the installer might have forgotten to knock out the drain plug from this disposer. All garbage disposers are sold with a solid plug in the drain tube for situations where a dishwasher isn't connected. However, if the dishwasher is connected, the plug will need to be removed. If the disposer wasn't replaced recently, remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer and clean out both the fitting on the disposer and the end of the drain hose. These are the most common places to find an obstruction if the dishwasher won't drain.

Check Valve If the dishwasher won't drain the check valve might be stuck closed. The check valve is a small plastic device which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the valve gets stuck closed, it will prevent the water from draining. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.

Check Ball If the dishwasher won't drain the check ball might be stuck. The check ball is a small plastic ball in the check valve which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the ball gets stuck, it will prevent the water from draining also. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.

My dishwasher won't drain and there is a rattling noise in the door. I don't know if I should just get a new one as the repairman costs are high. I did start a cyle over and more water went in but...

there is a drain pump system on the machine could be clogged, also if the drain hose is not installed up and over the unit it will cause issues with drainage. as for the rattling noise you probably have either pieces of broken glass rolling around under the basket.if you are a do it your self-er its always fun to explore.if not the cost of repair would be the cost of a new install. don't waste your money.

Dishwasher will not drain.

When you start that model, it is supposed to run the drain pump for 90 seconds...i'd suspect, since it's noisey on startup and not draining, that you probably have something stuck in your drain pump (food debris), or possibly the pump is faulty. Remove the pump from under the dishwasher, and check for debris.

Kitchenaid dishwasher making funny noises while running

HI. this sounds like a busted impeller in the pump housing. there are two impellers. one for the wash and one for the drain. the drive shaft will strip the impeller center nut, causing this noise. I would inspect the pump housing for lose impeller action. replace the faulty impeller if found to be damaged.

Ge Triton dishwasher will not drain and makes a funny noise.

Yes!! The crackling noise you hear is small pieces of food stuck spinning around the moter drain....All you have to do is find the drain hose (some are located under the sink of the kitchen) disconnect it from the draining source (not the back of the dishwasher) now run a long thin wire through the drain hose line poke around and pull in and out!! it may take a few tries but its better then a large Bill!! replace hose and hit drain button!!
