As far as I know you'd need a program to rip the dvd to a computer. Then convert it to a compatible format for the psp like mpeg. Transfer to your memory stick and there you go. The program I use to rip dvds is called dvdfab. Would be easier for you to just download the movie from the internet in a suitable format and put it on the memory stick, but it's illegal to download movies!

How would you transfer DVD movies to a PSP using a laptop computer?

Hi,
In order to transfer movies to a PSP you would need a computer, a USB cable connector and a Memory Stick Duo. In order for movies be played in a PSP, they should be converted into a PSP movie format or an .MP4 file as this is the only extension that a PSP could play.
Next step would be to converting movie format you have into a PSP movie file or .MP4 format. Fortunately, there is a lot of software or applications out there that are capable of converting video files from one format to another. Aside from the regular file conversion applications, there are already PSP video converters available over the internet which can easily convert popular videos like DVD, VCD, SVCD, MOV, RM, MPEG, WMV, 3GP, AVI to PSP video format or the H.264/MPEG-4 format. After you have converted the movie files, it's just a matter of placing them into the memory storage of the PSP.
You will need to connect the PSP to a PC or Mac first, of course, and run the PSP video manager which is located in the "Tool" menu.
The system will automatically detect "C:Temp." The PSP files in this folder will be shown on the left side while files on the PSP will be shown on the right. The PSP is identified by the system as a "Removable Disk". Now, highlight the file which you want to put into the PSP and then click "Copy" and wait until the transfer has been completed.

Converting Movies to Psp Format

Hey again, this is a real quick guide for anyone interested to get a movie onto there PSP without all the fluff I have seen elsewhere. I just watched Aftica the Serengeti on my PSP and here's is the lowdown.

Movie - approx 40 minutes - DVD.
Saved to hard drive - 2.6Gig - using DVD.
Decryptor (free program) try Google.
Transferred to AVI format - 377MB - using Super DVD Ripper (9 FREE trial uses) then you must buy.
Transferred to MP4 - 37MB - using the (basically free) Image Convertor 2.

Average movie breakdown - using above as a guide only.
So i'm guessing the average movie may be 4.5Gig for example saved to 800MB.
CONVERTED TO 70-80MB.

OK, use DVD Decryptor to save the movie to your hard drive eg. c:\africa (it will save it for you as described). When completed find the folder c:\africa on your computer and find the vob file in that folder - generally the largest one and right click and play it with your dvd program to see what part it is. If it's the correct movie part you now know that's the one you need.

Once you have located the vob file you want to transfer open DVD Ripper and go to wizard icon. There you will see an icon of VOB to AVI button. Click it and then it will ask to locate the file. Locate the file and click it. It will SCAN THE FILE (just wait till that finishes) a parameter box opens next and just click the arrow. It then askes to choose output file, click the file icon and locate the correct fob file. It then askes for file compression - choose microsoft windows media and then click ok then press the start button. It will now convert the vob into avi format.
(there are also other options ie:dvd to avi etc.) I have only used the vob to avi for this test.

After DVD ripper has transferred the file it will save it to the same folder as the original move was in eg: c:\africa\viteots. Open the file and you will now see an AVI icon containing the movie.

Make sure you PSP is on and in usb mode then Open Image Convertor 2 and press on movie / add to list. For this example I click on c:drive the found the folder Africa and opened it and there was my converted AVI file. Click the file press ok and it will be transferred to your PSP for viewing pleasure.

****Note**** I only converted one VOB file as that's all there was for this particular movie. If you have more then one vob file you may need to try the dvd to avi when you rip. This is just a guide i worked out to compress dvd into the smallest possible file so you can get value out of a 512 card.

I have transfered movie files onto the memory stick in my psp how do i retreive the movies on the psp to watch them? i cant find them in the menu on the console?

There are three parts to this.

1. Movies should appear on the "Video" portion of the PSP's menu. If they are not:

2. The movies were not properly transferred. It's important to note that PSPs will only play MP4 format video files. If the movie you moved to the PSP is not an MP4 file, it will never appear on the PSP video menu.

I have transferred a few movies to PSP, but I never ripped them myself. I have the following software package from ImToo. It rips the movie, converts it to MP4, names it properly, and transfers it to the PSP for me:

http://www.imtoo.com/dvd-to-psp-suite.html

3. If you have already ripped the movie as MP4 and it's not showing up in the video section, here's what you have to do:

Connect your PSP with PC, and copy those two files into "H:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01" (where "H" is the drive letter of your PSP). Re-name your files in PSP. You must re-name them to "M4Vxxxxx.MP4". There would be five random numbers followed "M4V" and the two letters should be capital. The numbers must be same for two files. This is quite important, or your file can not be played on PSP.
