Temperature control I just got a Danby DCF401W 25IN Chest freezer - 3.6 Cu.ft w/ basket. How do I control the temp. I see the dial front right bottom of freezer. if I turn it counter clockwise the strip goes lighter and clockwise goes darker. Which way is colder and where should I have the dial pointing.

that answer didnt help me. Should the dial point at the darker blue or the whiter area closer to "turning it off" position.?

I have a danby mini fridge and freezer and noticed the same problem. The temperature dial has NO NUMBERS ON IT! it just has a strip that goes from light to dark blue. That's it. I looked in the manual and it doesn't say anywhere which way is colder...it makes sense that the darker the blue the colder the temperature but why keep us guessing?

Turning the dial to the right (clockwise) will lower the temperature. Turning it to the left (counterclockwise) will raise it. Higher numbers on the thermostat knob indicate colder temperatures. If the thermostat is turned to the extreme left until it 'clicks' ('off' position) then the power to the compressor will be switched off.

In control position 1 the freezer temp will be around -10 C (+14 F). In position 7 the freezer will run continuously, giving a food temp of around -23 C (-10 F), depending on room temp.

Recommended control setting is between 4 and 5 on the control knob.

Dark blue is colder. Light gradient blue is warmer.

My Danby mini fridge DOES NOT HAVE ANY NUMBERS! Just a white-to-blue gradient colored strip. Which way is colder?! toward the blue, or toward the white?

Unsure how the temperature dial goes. Is it l. or r. for colder?

Hi Normally temperature dial has at left maximum temperature while right is minimum temperature.
You can feel ( hear ) actually the sound of motor/compressor when it is run. Running motor will produce low temperature. By this you can decide where the set point should be made

SETTINGS DCF520W

The best temperature for storing food is 0 degrees F. I would go to Wal-Mart, K-mart or a dollar store and find a refrigerator/freezer thermometer and set the freezer temperature with that. Best of Luck

What is the max. surrounding temperature for it operate efficiently

Most of these items are built to go as high as 95 degrees and somewhat function. I would not go above 80 degrees based on my 25 years of experience in working with commercial refrigeration. If it's a residential unit, I have a chest freezer in my garage for the last 8 years and not had any problems at all. I'm in the middle of Georgia and temps get pretty high in the summer.
Hope this helps.

Green light on the front

Your problem is more than likely in the light itself. The green light is the indicator that the temperature is in acceptable range.
