There is a wave/bow in the bottom and top of the picture on the screen of my Toshiba 70HX50. When I am in the grid screen in the service mode, it looks like the center is 'bowed' out. How do I adjust this grid?

Slight error in the alignment of a projection TV is pretty much normal. If the problem cannot be seen on a normal TV picture, I would not spend the money.
However, if the problem is severe and causes colour double images, it is convergence and will need parts replaced - about $200-$600 depending on service call, parts, labour, etc.
Minor adjustment takes a skilled technician. attempting it yourself will likely cause the set to stop functioning. (Digital adjustment is not forgiving)

There is a wave/bow in the bottom and top of the picture on the screen of my Toshiba 70HX50. When I am in the grid screen in the service mode it looks like the center is 'bowed' out. How do I adjust this...

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

My 57hx81 has a slight concave bow in the middle top to bottom

Sounds like a problem in the vertical sweep circuit. Check voltages to your convergence ICs. If they are  not to spec then look for bad fuses and capacitors on the power board. These will throw off the DC voltage to the convergence chips causing the bow effect. I've had a single bad pico fuse ($1) cause this symptom.

Magic focus grid not straight.

i'm no expert by any means; but I wonder if it could be as simple as the reflective screening on the inside comming loose. I have a 65" and I took it apart to clean it. The reflective screening looked to me like it could be a weak point. Just a thought.

Toshiba 43H70 convergence

You will have to contact toshiba at 1-800-457-7777 and get a service manual to adjust the on board menu and adjustment.. I do not or ever ever recomend that an unexperienced person mess with the sets alighnments unless they have the service manual and understand all of the teminology as I've seen several sets that cost the customer 4 times what it would have if they didnt mess with the service menu and knock all the alighnments as this is not the time to adjust someting just to see what happens.
