First make sure it is installed correctly as well as the ribbon. If they are not in their guides correctly, then this is common. Also, make sure you have a non-tacky correction tape or nearly non-tacky correction tape. Sure hope this helps.
Be sure you remove all packing materals. Check Printwheel, correction tape and ribbon installation. Be sure the carrier will move back and forth all the way.
If the correction does all the movements it is supposed to make and won't lift off you may have a non correctable ribbon or the L/O may be installed wrong the dull side must face the paper.
Remove and inspect the ribbon cartrige, wind the knob and make sure that the ribbon moves and reinstall. Check that the correction tape is installed properly. Check that the ribbon plate assembly is not in the correction position. Try CODE RESET (Q key)
I installed the supply reel first, with the tape coming off the top of the reel toward the first guide, made a partial twist to the right to go over and around the first guide toward the take-up reel and then installed the take-up reel so that the tape goes over the top of the take-up reel toward the operating person and is then wound counter-clockwise around the take-up reel.
Is the ribbon that you installed a correctable one? It should have a yellow or orange knob to turn it. If that knob is blue, you installed a multistrike or non-correctable ribbon.
The only other thing is you have the correction tape in backwards
