Any new user is rejected by the router.

To whom it may concern. I have a linksys router, which is not password protected... Somebody must have made some changes to my router... my computer, Iphone, Blackberry,Laptop do all still work fine, however, if somebody new, like my friends come and visit, they can not make any connection to my wireless network. My SSID and my password are still fine, however, all new visitors or friends can not log into my network.. Can you please tell me what I have to do..? Thanks for your kind help and support. Kind regards from Phoenix. Ralf (my e-mail address is [email protected])

Please check your MAC address permision in your linksys router's.

if you disable that MAC address permission require or MAC address authentication require, your friend will be able to connect to your router.

My LINKSYS as for password, it is locked

Press and hold the reset button of the Linksys router using a pointed object (like a paper clip or pen) for 30 seconds.

The reset button is located in the back of the Linksys router closest to an Ethernet port.

The button is recessed to protect you from accidentally resetting the modem.

Unplug the Linksys router while pressing the reset button.

Shut down your computer for one minute.

Plug the Linksys router back into the wall outlet.

Reboot your computer.

Open your web browser to access a website.

Type the below in the address bar if you want to reset your password:

http://192.168.1.1

A prompt from the site will request a user name and password.

The user name stays blank, or, in some models, is "admin".

Navigate to the security tab. Input your new password to protect unauthorized access to your router

hope this helps

I want to password protect my router

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to make you connection secure the you need to set a Network Key on your router and need to access the Wireless Settings Page.

To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security You can select either WEP, WPA or WPA2 to make it secure and under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key. The Network Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure. Generate a personalize key for your network.

If this works dont forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

When I try to conect my new Ipad to WIFI Kearny it ask for a password which I do not have or it no longer works? how can I solve this problem ?? Do I need to buy a new router ? My router is a WRT54G2

There is no need to buy a new router, just log in at the router's settings page using any web browser (for your router usually http://192.168.1.1, admin for user and nothing or admin for password), navigate to Wireless Settings / security settings and write down the WEP or WPA KEY that you can find here. This is the password that your new Ipad is asking for.

For some reason the wireless connection wizard is asking me for a WPA or WEP so that i can access my wireless connection. But I never had one to begin with, it has always been an open access network. What...

Your first step is to log in the routers' settings page with your browser (192.168.1.1), go at the wireless network - security settings and check if your wi-fi is open (without password) or password protected. In case it's password protected you can see the password and use the same password for connecting at the wi-fi network. I don't suggest using an unprotected wi-fi because not only everyone can use your internet access but everyone can see your own files at your computers.

How to put password in reuter cause somebody share my signal when in a wireless mode?

Use your browser and go at the address http://192.168.1.1. Log in using user: admin and pass: admin (or whatever you use to log in at your router's settings page). Locate the Wireless section - security tab. Here set the security mode to WPA2 (better safety than WPA) and type anything you like at passphrase field. This passphrase is the one that someone has to apply in order to connect with your Wi-Fi.

I have my linksys wrt160n connected but with no password, i cant find my install cd. i want to set a password.

Take it easy. You don't need any installation cd. Connect your computer with the router and after the connection between pc - router established, click on start - run and at the white line type "cmd" without the quotes and hit enter. At the new black window type "ipconfig" and hit enter. Write down the numbers at the last line referring for Default Gateway. Open a browser window and at the address bar type the number you write down before and hit enter, without www etc at the beginning. You will go at the router's entry settings page. In case you don't know the user - password I have to tell you that the default credentials for Linksys routers are:
for user type "admin", without the quotes
for password type "admin'' or"1234" or none, without the quotes. Now on you can change any settings as you like.
In case of the above procedure don't work, locate and press the reset button in order to get the router at the default setting and retry the procedure.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

I need a password for the setup of this wireless router

Older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin."

Lost my security code

In case you mean the Wi-Fi security code you can loacte it at the router's setting's page, at the wireless section, at the security area. In case you mean the router's log-in password the default password for Linksys routers (depending on the model) are (none), admin, 1234.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

Can not sign in to rename my SSID onmy linksys...will notaccept the original user name and password ....keeps saying UNAUTHORIZED

Usually the default password is admin with having the username blank. If your changed your username and password for the router and it won't log you in then hold the black reset button in till the router resets it's self to default settings.
