Hello. Some of these memory cards have a small lock slide on the perimeter. Check yours to see if in fact, it is in the lock position which would prevent you from formatting. Formatting erases everything from the card so the lock is a protection.

I installed a Kodak 8gb sdhc card in my Kodak Easy Share Z730 and it keeps telling me the card needs formatting formatted on my comp and thru my camera but still says the same thing

If the Camera is new or the SD Card is new then you don't have much problem,
use the installation CD that comes with the camera to install it driver on a computer, so can use the USB cord to explore the camera. on the computer, try to locate the SD Card and format it. then you can use the camera again.
If you have files on the digital camera then i am afraid you might have connected the camera earlier with a virus infected device. there is no choice but to fellow my step either to scan it with computer or better still format it with computer.
Hope to know the outcome!!

Keeps returning to "needs to be formated" each

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". Some include trying to use a 4GB SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Others include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link. By the way, the Z730 was made before SDHC came out. Only consider 2GB or less standard SD cards. They're very inexpensive these days on Amazon.

Sandisk Memory card will not format?

hello
  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

My memory card won't work in my camerakeeps telling me to format the Lexar 2GB card every time I insert it

Use the camera to format the SD card not your computer. There should be a menu option to format it.
