I was looking for step-by-step install guide to putting new hard drive and loading Windows XP on my Dell Inspiron E1505?? I purchased a WD 320GB SATA hard drive to replace my dead 80gb hard drive....Dell...

All you've got to do is:

1) Insert the new hard drive.
2) Press the F8 key as the laptop boots. This will take you into the BIOS.
3) Locate the disk drive priority setting in the bios.
4) Set Priority 1 to your CD/DVD drive and priority 2 to the 320GB hard drive.
5) Save settings and exit the BIOS. This should reboot your laptop.
6) Insert the Windows XP CD.
7) It should not start the setup as it recognises the CD.
8) I will recommend that you format the drive before you install, go along with the format (make sure it does a full format).
9) After the format it will reboot your system.
10) You will be prompted with a message like "Press any key to boot form CD", DON'T press anything otherwise it will start all over again.
11) Now it should start the install. Follow the on-screen instructions.

I got problem with formating pc xp ..after a push F8 to agree licens ..format stop runin and show me that " searchin for previous microsoft windows " i need to solve this problem what i need...

Hi
Your HDD is maybe damaged and you won't be abble to install a new os on it .
Otherwise , if you really can't format it , try extracting it from your desktop and connecting it to a healthy computer .
Reinstall it back in your desktop afterwards and launch the W XP install disc .

How to format pc please show me how

Before you do format your harddrive back up your drivers onto a flash pen or cd first there are free programs on the net to do this. For some reason installing xp to a system you can put money on it you wont have the network driver.

Your going to need an external cdrom as i dont think the ASUS 900 has one? What you need to do is boot from an operating system cd (eg. XP or Win7 or what ever your using) then follow the instructions on screen to guide you through formating and installing of a new operating system.
As i dont know what OS your installing i cant give a step by step guide but the on screen instructions are simple to follow.

Uninstall xp

You can remove service pack 2 from within add/remove programmes, you will not lose any documents, but you will lose the udated security patches which is not recommended. If you mean you wish to remove XP SP completely, obviously the files and everything you have installed on c drive will be deleted as you can only save docs etc within an operating system, as c: is just a partition on your hard drive the files reside within the operating system. If you are upgrading to another operating system my advice would be to use a dual boot system and install the other operating system on a seperate partition of your drive, but you would have to have a fair knowledge of pc operating system installation processes.
