I was using Microsoft Document Imaging with Vista Home Premium to scan a multipage report. After the first page was scanned and I pressed the continue scanning button to scan the next page, I received error messages that the scanner was not available.
I've tried unplugging and replugging all cords & cables to no effect. Restart the PC and the scanner and try again. Make sure you installed the right drivers, make sure that the PC see's the scanner, check devise MGR and look under printers, interface devise.
Smile...well this is due to a default setting in windows which u need to change. 1. leave the device plugged to the USB & power it 2. Go to device manager \ expand (+) universal serial bus controllers 3. Right-click \ properties \ usb root hub \Power management tab \ uncheck box (allow the computer to switch off the device)
Based on the assumption it's mechanically ok, check the cable connection between the document feeder and the base, if damaged or worked look it can cause errors. If it is a sensor error, check for a small bit of paper or even a staple from a prior jam.
1. Click Start 2. Control Panel 3. Click Scanners and Cameras 4. Click on the Icon and follow the Scanner and Camera Wizard instructions. 5. Select the HP scanning device from the TWAIN source list 6. Click File and then Scan New .

same problem but with no joy using buttons or the software icons
