When i try to use the screen display a get a blank white screen with a series of straight vertical lines on the left hand-side of the LCD Screen as well as one staright horizontal line going across the top. I can use the camera otherwise using viewfinder.

Sounds like your LCD screen might be broken. Try PhotoTech Repair in NYC. They are manufacturer authorized to do repairs.

There is three LCD in the projector red, green and blue. If green LCD make any fault mean line or dot or dots then screen show these line or dot in purple color:
If line is very straight and sharp edges then green LCD is faulty and need to be replaced.
If line is not straight and faded edges then some thing in LCD block so your projector need service

I believe that your LCD panel is the problem, but you should verify that you have good video, by toggling to an external monitor to check your output. If it dispays good, you have an LCD problem.
well, your camera's LCD has a dead row of pixles you cant fix that, you can try ignoring it, and if yo cant ignore it, then a specialist can probably replace the LCD
