Hi I have another computer a windows xp and I forgot my password what can I do without paying money to recover it do I need to make a system repair disk on this computer
The first thing you can do is try accessing the Administrator account. To make this easier, boot into Safe Mode, and login as Administrator. Turn on the computer, and keep tapping F8 as soon the the bios/post/splash screen is passed, you have to do this quickly. If you do this correctly, you'll see the Windows Advanced Boot Menu, hightlight the Safe Mode using your keyboard's up/down arrow keys and press enter to select and start booting. Wait until you see the the Windows xp welcome screen, select "Administrator" and proceed, if you see any warning message, click "Ok" or "yes", once you are logged in, right-click "My Computer", select "Manage". The Computer Management window will open up, now locate "Local Users and Groups", click the "+" sign beside it and again click "Users", look at the right-pane, you'll see your username (the username you've forgotten your password), right-click your username, and click "Set Password" or if "Reset Password" is available, click it. Set a new password and there you go, you now have reset your windows xp password. Please note that if you have any "encrypted" files or folders, you may be having problem opening them, but if you don't know what is encrypted in Windows, I guess you didn't do that.
Once everything is done, restart your computer and login to your account.
If in case your Administrator account has a password, you won't be able to do this, in many instances, the Administrator password is "admin" (without quotes), so you can try with it, otherwise you'll need a tool like Ophrack or Nt Password reset tool to get this done.
Let me know if you need further help..
Good Luck.
Thanks for using FixYa.
