Compressor running non-stop

I've replaced the freezer Temp Control, thinking that would fix my problem, but the compressor stays running the temps are good . I let it run for over 2 hours, without the compressor turning off. I can turn it off by manually turning the defrost timer. It stays off for about 20 minutes. Does this mean that my defrost timer is bad or do I have another problem?

Temperature setting/changes takes more than 2 hours to stabilize. If still running non stop after 24 hours use a digital thermometer to check the internal temp of refrigerator. If not cold enough it will not open the thermometer and turn off the compressor. Meanwhile, a 20 minute defrost cycle is about right.

SOURCE: crystals forming all over freezer

Look at the gasket between the door and the ref cabinet. If you have any gap in there, then worm air is getting in, condensing, then freezing.

SOURCE: Refrigerator section on side by side losing cooling

Here is the Amana website with the manuals which should show you where the defrost timer etc. is located. Witht your model number and manual it will be a lot easer

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/product_literature/search.jsp?siteCd=AMA

And yes the defrost timer thermostat and heater are the most likely problem.

Do not let this keep running and running or you may lose your compressor too which means a lot more expense than now.

you have a few things that could be wrong, a bad thermistor, a bad air defuser, or a bad main board. changing the thermistor could fix it but if not, i would call a pro that order the right part. lots of varibles.

Too cold

If the unit seems to be running non stop, you may have a bad cold temp control. If you have ice cream in freezer, it will likely be rock hard, that you need a chisel to scoop. if your ice cream is ok, its likely not the temp control. On your GE, in the fresh food section, do you have a canopy on the ceiling of fridge, and likely covers the whole top back portion of your fridge? If you do, there is a damper door inside, that breaks off its hinge, and stays wide open, allowing cold air from freezer to constantly be pulled into fridge, freezing food. If you do have this canopy, it will need to be replaced, as you cannot reattach the damper to its hinge.

Temp control = controls run time of the compressor and temp of freezer.
damper and cold control = control how cool the fridge is...
also check you fan speed and air flow to the fridge.

Everything in frig is frozen and it won't turn off.

If the compressor is running non-stop then the temp. control is not telling it that it's "cold enough". If the compressor isn't running non-stop then you should look at the air damper (little window) that lets the freezer air into the refer compartment... if it's stuck open then you will always get cold air pushed into the fridge eventually becoming a freezer in itself.

Samsung side by side srs580dw stops freezing and chilling

Since the temps on the display don't show correctly I'd assume something is wrong with that. If the temps are sending info out that the unit is OK and at proper temp (when it's not) then the compressor won't turn on because it thinks the fridge is cold enough. Soooo... I'd suspect that control board. It's item 48 on this diagram http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/SS10-2.gif
