Do NOT for any reason use the camera again to take pictures. If it has an internal memory, take it out and, if you need to use the camera, replace it with another compatible one.
Now if you can either mount the camera as USB disk, or you can extract the memory (SD card, stick, etc.) and plug it in the appropriate reader to see it as a disk drive, then you can run RECUVA (from Piriform) and you should be able to recover most of your images, unless:
1) Other data have been written on the memory (that's why I told you not to use the camera)
2) The memory card has been "securely deleted", something I think nobody therearound would do or even know how to do
3) The original, full memory card inside has been taken out and swapped with another (it happened to me once. My Canon and my Palm have compatible SD cards. I inadvertently swapped them). So your data are safe and sound -- maybe in a drawer somewhere :-)
