Sony Handycam DCR-HC42 Mini DV not recognized by Windows 7

My Sony Handycam DCR-HC42 Mini DV digital recorder is not recognized by Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit when connected via USB. This worked fine on XP Pro with my prior PC. Sony support download site says the driver is included with Windows 7 and does not offer a download. I have installed the Sony PMB application, but it cannot locate the handcam. Searched the web for another provider of the driver without luck (including Driver Whiz application). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Win vista and win 7doesn't support usb streaming. the usb driver for this model would not be compatible with your computer's OS. although, you were able to download PMB still this wouldn't work, it's basically an alternative software that you can use with the newer OS. still the device driver would not be installed. and you would get a message that "ilink connection is not detected". the reason you get that is bec the camcorder and the software is intended for use with the dv (ilink or ieee1394) connection. so if your computer has an ieee1394 card and you have a compatible ilink cable, then your good to go,it should be a plug-and-play connection (no drivers required). all you need then would be a video capturing software (like win moviemaker) to transfer videos from tape to PC. hope this helps. thanks :)

Theproblem often is that one just NEEDs to have the 'Firewire' (which many laptops dont:( ... or is there solution to this? Installing XP as a secondary OS in the WIN7 machine can solve problem but that also isn't always easy..

Sony Handycam DCR-HC42 Mini DV Digital camcorder image is solaried. I did not put in this mode, nor can I get to revert to a normal image. The viewfinder, LCD, and recorded images all appear solarized....

This is usually caused by a defective CCD image sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Windows 7 64 bit and sony dcr-hc42

Maybe, It doesn't work because the driver you installed. It is for other versions of operating system. I am also using windows 7 like you.Dont worry, You can still use your installer/driver from other versions of operating systems. Before you installing any program/driver in a windows 7 Operating System Computer, Use "troubleshoot compatibility". Right Click the Icon of your program installer first, then choose "troubleshoot compatiblity". This will allow you to choose on what type operating system your program will run. Just reply back if it still doesn't work.:Djulyallan01_6.jpg
