Most gas-powered tools of this kind use a permanent magnet flywheel and a stationary ignition coil (they call it solid state- I guess so, no liquids involved.)
The ignition coils are coming from China and are of lousy or at least inconsistent quality and are frequent failures.
If you decide to replace it your self (not difficult) use a gap gauge of some kind so you can space the new coil's core the original distance from the flywheel otherwise you will end up doing it by trial and error. It will be in the range of a few thousandths of an inch.
