'Sn' is a general error message relating to the temperature sensors.

Assuming that you have a Balboa spa pack (M7 version), turn off the power and remove the spa pack cover, you'll find two temperature sensors mounted in the top of the heater tube one at each end. Follow the wiring from the sensor to the plug(s) on the PCB and check that the connections are good, they have a habit of devekoping a poor connection.

If you have a multimeter you could also check the resistance of the two sensors. They should both be the same. If they aren't the same you'll probably have to replace them.

One final thing just to check... Ensure that there are no blockages within the heater. Unless you have service/gate valves you will have to drain the hot tub, unscrew the unions and check inside the heater for debris within the heater assembly.

OK, 5n is meant to say SN meaning sensor. This is refering to your temperature sensor, and means that the computer thinks that the sensor has failed.

Check to see that it is plugged into the board completely, then verify that it is not chewed up by a mouse or rat. Both of these are the most often seen problems.

Hello, and thanks for the question. Your error code is actually "SN" not "5N" but they are sometimes difficult to discern on the LCD topside display. The SN error code is for a Non-functional High temperature sensor which automatically kicks the heater off and trips the breaker. You can purchase new sensors for $75-$85 (it could be more, my pricing index is quite a few years out of date) I'm not sure where the sensor is located in that particular tub, although it is most likely in the heating canister. Make sure the power is off at the breaker before attempting any tub repair. if you have shut-off valves to the heating canister you may not have to drain the tub, remove the heating can and replace the sensor you will have to plug/unplug the sensors from the power pack/circuit board. We have a Great Lakes spa with a Balboa control panel, manufactured in 1992. When you plug the spa in, it will shut down and read Sn on the topside control panel. We have replaced the high limit/temp...
Contact Balboa's Customer support department directly at 800-645-3201, follow the prompts to customer tech support (or press 0 and ask for customer support). You will need to be at the spa, control panel open and ready to read off the chip number, and you will need to be proficient with a test meter (AC voltage). The SN error is related to a bad sensor(s), but can also indicate a failed board. An incorrect sensor set will also create this problem, so confirm you used the exact or compatible replacement. If the SN code issue is no longer a problem, but the spa is still not heating, look and see if the heater led is on. If it is, you likely have some burned relays on the board, which can be replaced cheaper than replacing the board. If you need more help, email me at [email protected]

I have a Great Lakes spa hot tub and nothing turns on, setting was saying OH. We turned the breaker off and then back on and now it is saying 5n.
