Compaq 8-port kvm switch firmware

May someone help me update the firmware or at least find out if I have the lastest version installed. I have version 1.6.11 installed. Thank you with your assistance with this matter.

I checked compaq website for support and couldn't seem to find any, and on the bottom of the switch it says its a compaq corporation series 4110. Thats all the information I could find on the switch itself.

Please be more specific about the model of your KVM switch. If you don't know it, it should be written somewhere under or on the back of the unit.

HP Parts supposedly still stocks the EPROM for this model, so you can try to order it from the HP Parts Store. Check for part 340579-001.

Unfortunately, upgrading the firmware on this KVM switch is quite a challenge. The Compaq 4110 KVM switch was actually manufactured by Apex which is now part of Avocent. Your switch is Compaq's rebranding of the Apex/Outlook EL-80DT from Avocent.

The upgrade of the firmware requires to physically replace the actual EPROM chip inside the unit! You may look at pages 64 and 65 of the user manual:
ftp://ftp.avocent.com/public/product-upgrades/Outlook/EL40-80DT/OL_DT_UG.pdf

Being more than 8 years old, this unit has been discontinued for a long time and Avocent is not providing anymore support. I wish you good luck for finding an upgrade... maybe you will be able to find a replacement EPROM via Google or on eBay.

You should be able to go to Compaq, support and look up your KVM and Model and they should have firmware there.

Compaq 8 port kvm switch

You Compaq unit is proabably a rebadged Avocent like my HP Analogue KVM. To open the menu on that, you simply press the Print Screen button to open the onscreen menu.

Hope this helps.

Switch starts switching back and forth between computers itself

There are no firmware updates for the GCS62 also the KVM appears to not have a firmware upgrade port. If the KVM is auto-switching have you tried hitting the ESC key or Space Bar? That should stop the auto switching.

Is this a weekly problem?

Hi

Thats about right , they can last for along as three weeks or just a couple of days, What you are best doing is downloading the latest firmware for your box , You will normally have to do this about twice a year ,because the lastest firmware last about six months then your box will go down again.

The key to display the KVM switch menu should be PrintScreen. Here is a link to the user manual:

Compaq 8 Port KVM Switch 147094-001

Funny... I was reading about something like this for an HP KVM I' looking at buying... I can't find ANY documentation for that older model. But I did find a forum that gave advisement on how to switch the ports from system to system.

Read this and give it a try:
"Try print screen, then the port number to which you want to switch, then enter.
"

I copied and pasted it into a text file for myself in case it's the correct method for the KVM I'm going to buy here soon. :)

Perhaps the models are similar enough that it'll work.

Please let me know because I am quite curious to see if this will work. I would imagine that there is a universal standard somehow.

I'll be watching.

KVM Monitor resolution out of frequency and will not display

Restart your system in a VGA mode (you will find this below Safe Mode, by pressing F8 before windows is loading) This way yours screen resolution will be at the very low frequency then you can change it back to the resolution you like. Eg. 800x600 or 1024x768. Remember to keep your Screen refresh rate lower like 75Mhz
