I have the exact same problem and need help. Did you find a solution you can share?
Patents468, You may need Raymarine to fix or upgrade the firmware inside the unit. I suggest visit to their website to get info on unit and see if they can help. 12fixlouie
There are 3 types of reset on that unit.
Factory Reset will clear out all data and reset back to factory fresh status; be careful because it will also clear the Waypoints, Marks, and Routes databases out. To do the reset press your MENU button. Then press the SYSTEM SET UP Soft key to display the System Set Up page. Then press and hold MENU for 5 seconds. A countdown timer will be displayed; if you release the MENU key before the timer ends the reset will not happen. When the reset request has been accepted the system will reset.
Power-On Reset happens when you turn the display on and off. The screen will revert to the chart or radar will all of the windows cleared.
Picture Reset will take place if you hold the DISPLAY key for 2 seconds. This will return the screen to the full screen picture of the top window with all of the windows cleared.
In case you don't have your manual handy here is the website that you can download your manual from:
http://www.raymarine.com/default.aspx?site=1&SECTion=3&Page=649&Parent=166
You can find your manual under the heading

PLUS Series Color Display Handbook
Hopefully this will help you out.
Hi,
It is due to component failure you are getting this error . For hardware reset you need to disassembe the unit and reset the accessible connectors. Also check all connectors are connected properly without any loose connections .
It involves risk in opening device ,if you prior experience in working on electronic items then you go with disassembling and accessing the connector .
Hope this helps .
If you have any queries ,feel free to ask .

The previous answer was too general; the statements could apply to any electronic device.
Hi, Brian,
My problem is that NONE of the buttons work. Holding the menu button or the display button has absolutely no effect.
I believe the device must be waiting for the GPS location to resolve the MOB location, and while waiting, it's not checking the buttons. Holding the MOB button should clear the MOB, but since none of the buttons work, I can't clear it.
I would also guess that there must be some battery in the device, because it remembers the mode it was in when it was last powered down. In this case, it was in this locked-up mode, so each time I restart the device (but disconnecting and reconnecting the power, because the power button doesn't work), it goes back to this locked-up mode.
It would seem to me that if I could disconnect the battery, it should clear the problem
I don't mind resetting back to the factory default settings, and losing my data, but I'm not sure if some important data (such as the factory settings) would also get wiped out if I do that.
Thanks for your help,
Rob
