Yup definitely sounds like the ballast, if not then you have a problem in the power supply. Probably some bad capacitors. Call a local tv repair shop.

Samsung tv is shutting off by itself.
Your DLP bulb is going bad. Get a replacement bulb (about $280 if not covered by warranty) and your problem will be fixed. If not, it will eventually stop working.

Our Samsung HL-P4663W DLP is makes noise and shuts off
It is the color wheel, inside the light engine. The bearings get dirty and makes it harder for the wheel to spin causing that whin.

DO you have the owners mannel if so read it and see what they would do ,have you removed the lamp and if so how did it look? some lamps only last for 5,000 hrs and others 8,000 hrs If lamp is bad TV will not come on.

It sounds like your lamp is going bad. The lamp part number is listed as "lamp code" on a sticker located on the left side of the set. Use this number to grab a replacement off ebay.
