Get the cubic volume of the room. The highest temprature differential. and how many air changes you need. this will give you the btu required.
If this is too high, get the biggest unit that your supply can safely carry.

How much room space can this unit cools or can I use it for two rooms

Hello Ursella Thompson,

Absolutely no information came through with your question about... Room air-conditioners (make/model/size)...

Which is actually okay because those calculations...

immediately become quite complex MORE BECAUSE OF THE ROOMS (& your climate) than the air conditioner.

The size of the room... height... INSULATION.number of windows (fenestration) & doors (their relative insulation, composition & size... drapes, shutters. blinds, shades... storm doors (all kinds of considerations).

Sadly... if you are interested in a "cheap" air-conditioning solution
this is the area where the cheap immediately becomes EXPENSIVE...

I personally hate having strangers in my house... but this is and area where getting a "utility ENERGY assessment" might be a good idea...

Then when you are assured your house is as good as REASON/FUNDS will allow...

THEN get estimates from A/C Vendors...
or
Hire an actual ENGINEER to get an idea of what your air-conditioning requirements are..?

Check the internet: you will be presented with an array of sheets, formulas... magic tricks..

It is important to know it is a CRITICAL DESIGN consideration... and has its on field of ENGINEERS.

Hope this helps

How do I find out how many "tons" my Carrier AC units are?

Hi,
Look in the model number for numbers like 24, 30, 48, or 60....
They represent the BTU's in thousands of the unit....
The BTU's are 12,000 per ton...
in other words a 24000 BTU unit will be a 2 ton unit

Hitachi Madris ac console

Hitachi is a good brand, I wouldn't be afraid of it.

As to the size, it seems a little 'oversized' for the room you're talking about.

24x12 = 288 sq ft. As a general rule you need 12000 btu for every 600 sq ft.

I'm thinking between 6000 -10000 btu ought to be big enough.

Lots of things go into sizing, and the size of the room is important - but the 'heat load,' needs to be considered too. For example - will there be a lot of people in this room, or is there a lot of windows, is there electrical equipment in this room that will be putting off heat, and how well is it insulated? So you need to consider all of these things when deciding what size unit to buy.

For example - if this room is a bedroom and used primarily for sleeping - I wouldn't be afraid to put a 6000 btu unit in it - but if it was going to be used as a place with tv's, computers and other electrical equipment I might want to put a 10000 btu (or larger) in it.

Good Luck!

Generally speaking, it sounds like 18000 btu is too much AC here, and there's no reason to spend more money than you need to and you can 'oversize' just as easy as you can 'undersize' when it comes to Air Condtioning.

Hi, Yesterday I bought haier 12000 BTU air

To determine the cost of using this air conditioner, you will need to find out what your electric company charges per kw/h. This is the standard unit that electricity is charged for. Next determine the wattage of the air conditioner. This should be found on the unit name plate. If you can not find the wattage by the name plate, the take the voltage and multiply by the amperage, this will give you watts. Next multiply the wattage by 24. (watts per hour x 24 hours) Finally divide this number by 1000. This will give you the total Kw that the unit will use in a 24 hour period. If you multiply this number by the cost per Kw that will give you the operating cost of your unit for one day.
ex. electric company charges .25/Kw The unit uses 1000 watts 1000 x 24 = 24000 watts 24000/1000 = 24 Kw 24 Kw x .25/Kw = $6.00 day
Note: all figures shown above were randomly generated in my head, and have no correlation to your calculations. Hope this helps.
