K-Tec Champ HP-3 Burning Smell and Light Smoke

We have had our K-Tec for 4 years and use it sporadically. Today I used it for the first time in about 3 months to make a smoothie. At the end of the cycle, I noticed a strong burning smell and some smoke coming from the hole at the top of the base that the carafe sits on.

Does the motor need to be oiled? What could be the cause?

Thanks for any info, I appreciate it.

That burning smell is kind of a death sentence. At least a switch or more likely coils are burnt out.

I have a Kitchen Champ by K-Tec and the gear shaft broke. I have looked and looked for a replacement. Do you have any idea where one can be found please?

Question edited for clarity, name of maker.

Question moved from Cars and Trucks.

The company handles these as Blendtec now. The web site is at http://www.blendtec.com/default.aspx Maybe this will help:

Customer service and sales are available from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm (MST) M-F.

I just talked with Blendtec about this issue, since I had the same problem. I asked if there was a stronger drive shaft since my previous Kitchen Champ model had a different, sturdier drive shaft that lasted about ten years.

The company representative explained that the new drive shaft is designed to break, but that's to save the motor. If the stress on the drive shaft could damage or cause excessive wear to the motor, the drive shaft breaks instead.

She also recommended using just enough flour so that the bread dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. The reason most drive shafts experience too much stress is due to too much flour in the recipe.

To replace the drive shaft, go to http://www.blendtec.com/Parts.aspx or call Blendtec at 1-800-Blendtec

The only part that will work for the Kitchen Champ is the Drive Shaft (Champ). Apparently, the German drive shaft -- which looks like the one from my old Kitchen Champ -- is not interchangeable.

Since this is my second Kitchen Champ and my previous one lasted over ten years, I'm delighted to understand what went wrong. I'm hopeful that using less flour will prevent another problem. And, I'm very pleased with how helpful Blendtec was, explaining this to me.

Smoothie pro 600 manual

It means it's working very hard,
I suggest to put items that are thick in first and blend them then add the other ingredients after , the smell is the coating on the motor getting hot , if you see smoke coming out, drink your smoothie wash it out and take it back for a new one.

Hi, Oh no!!!!!!, my blade has seized up and left little black bits of the gasket right under the blade in the jar. Can I get this gasket? We bought this absolute AWESOME Blender at the Home Show here in...

The bearing and seal are not replaceable. The bearing is sonically welded into thte base of the jar. The K-Tec is made by Blend-Tec, and any of the Blend-Tec jars will work as a direct replacement.

There is a leak in the caraffe(or jar). It is at

Common issue with all of these carafe's. Once the jar starts to leak the bearings are shot and it is time to replace the jar. The bearings are non-replacable. Bad design in my opinion. I was able to get my last jar (I have been through 3 before the 5 year warranty went out) to last by hand washing and not putting it in the dishwasher, but after 4 years of use on this jar it failed too.

Burning smell

That burning smell was possibly the motor windings burning out. If the windings have burned the blender will need to be replaced. Hope this has helped you today,.......... Sea Breeze

Suddenly my blender is VERY LOUD!

Had this happen twice before. The bearings in the blade area are going. We figured that in our dishwasher the heated water pools on the top by the bearings and as it cools water is brought in contact with the bearings and they rust. We have used penetrating oil to put a pool of oil around the bearing shaft and store it like that. Still noisy but cheaper than buying the replacement. Hand wash the blender to avoid this happening to your new one if and when you replace it.
