How can i see files created in windows os after installing ubuntu 14.04 tls

when you computer turns on it should automatically ask you what os you would like to boot from. on a side note of you go into your harddrive you should find a folder named "windows" or
"windows old" and all the files you saved should be in there. seems to me that u install'd ubuntu over windows and now only have ubuntu on your computer... but you should still have that windows folder if you chose not to delete you files.making a new partition does not mean you will have 2 os's on your computer... hope this all helps.

HP mini 110-1025DX act as though it has no OS. Start up: POST, display shows three options F9, F10, or F12. Cannot access BIOS due to missing password. Owner states a virus has been downloaded (pop up...

2009 PC, getting old,
it's not a virus in the BIOS ROM, sorry but is not.!
it had stinking XP on it, so the virus magnet did is it always does.
XP has over 700 exploits, end rant, upgrade it .

the way to trouble shoot any notebook or laptop is get the big battery out. first. unplug it. if BIOS asks ODD. or dead.
then make sure the coin cell reads 2.9v to 3.3v, less is bad.'

then BIOS works, seems it does, just someone set the silly PW.
and is BIOS password locked
HP has a fix for this PW lock, and secret unlock, see last link below.

possibles.
bad HDD , run linux boot disk test.
can you boot to usb stick with F9 or is F9 bios locked
wish I could see it , or you tell all things that work or not.

if bios f9 key works must how would you get to Gparted,
my guess is you did boot to LINUX media and ran Gparted.
so that leaves what?.
F11 is dead, recovery part, erased. RIP XP for ever, yea.
the OS is dead,? but hdd dead makes OS dead. so...
so run the linux disk test and smart test first.
if that passes then and only now can load the OS from HP media.
next buy a new OS and install it of HDD is ok
if not , new HDD and new OS time.
i use UBUNTU disk (is use a usb stick iso linux), then boot it and click LIVE UBUNTU. yah.
and then run disk test.

like here.

the Pw reset is here,
the real HP is here the real deal ask them,

they ask for service tag data.!!!

My FUJITSU SIEMENS AMILO PA 1538 screen comes black ? HELP

Try connecting the laptop to an external monitor and see if all is working Ok with that, if it is, then you may need to get the laptop display serviced - if it does the same on the external display, then try booting the laptop from a CD or DVD such as an OS install CD (Windows or Linux) or a boot utility CD such as Hiren's Boot CD - this will allow you to test whether the problem lays with your installed operating system or with the hardware. . . .
Note: do not go any further than the initial displays if using an OS install CD unless you are using a Linux Live boot CD which will not destroy your installed operating system. . . .See http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ to download a copy of Hiren's Boot CD to burn to a CD. . . .See http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download to download a copy of a Ubuntu (Linux) Live CD.

What is your Operating System (Windoze, Linux, etc...)???, did it worked befor and than just stop working??? do you have the most recent DRIVER???, have you tryed an other software than the one native to your OS ??? the cable feeds trough the hinge of the screen so some times the cable can be dammaged by repetitive opening/closing of the cover, or I've seen some that unpluged inside the laptop from the connector on the system board becaus the cable was 1mm to short I had to re-route the cable elsware to give it more slack...

Boot with a live CD Ex:(Ubuntu) and than try it with a software called cheese, to make sure it is not something wrong with your OS

Hi, I have a Toshiba 80GB MK8037GSX 2.5" SATA in

1) have checked bios cannot see hdd mounted.

That is BAD -- the disk-drive could have "died".

2) tried a seagate hdd works fine so connections in laptop seem to be working

That shows that your motherboard is GOOD, but that your disk-drive is BAD.

3) can hear hardrive trying to do something as can hear harddrive usual noise, continous noise for about 5 sec before getting the error message

That is BAD -- the disk-drive is "dying".

4) no rattling or crackling noise from drive apart from the above

That is BAD -- none of the files can be read from your disk.

i have created a ubuntu boot up disk which allows me to access laptop but does shows error when locating hdd,

That is BAD.

once in ubuntu i can access internet but it does not show the windows partition of the harddrive, only shows ubuntu as opearing system, confused.

That is BAD. Only the CD/DVD disk has been mounted -- Ubuntu could not mount the disk-drive.

In regards to ubuntu working does this mean the hdd is ok?

No, it means that your motherboard is working.

and is there anyhting i can try via ubuntu to locate the files?

No. The disk-drive is "dead".

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

hi thanks for using fixya!

On this kind of error, the only option you could do is to format your system, but if you are not so familiar in formatting your laptop, I suggest that you bring laptop to service tech, to easily perform error checking and reformatting. This error might be virus or software problems.

Thanks! hope this will enlighten you. please rate me! good luck!

Long time to boot acer 3680

Hmm... It sounds like you may need to do go into safe mode and do a chkdsk /r at a command prompt. You could try a System Restore Point if nothing else works... If you need to backup any data and reinstall this is a great OS to do it with: http://www.ubuntu.com
It will allow you to boot off the CD, get online, and even explore your Vista NTFS Partition.

You may have a conflict with the hardware. I have had installations fail because of this. You may want to use the Ubuntu live CD to boot into Ubuntu. If this works out for you, you should be able to install.

If you cannot boot into Ubuntu using the live CD, try booting into the CD using some special boot prompts. See this How To:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/BootPrompt-HOWTO.html

I find nolapic noapci noapic did the trick for me on my HP.
